Helpful Distractions

Posted in: 2022 posts | blog images | Friends | My Dark Side | My Paranoid Side

Woke up feeling like 2019 today.

I'm fine.

I think I'm fine...?

2019 isn't a good year for my mental state. So waking up with similar thoughts from that year should be alarming to me.

First thing I did in the morning is to acknowledge those thoughts. Do I still feel that way? Not so much. It kinda went the morbid way in the end but I managed to brush the feelings away. That's not what I want to spend all day thinking about.

Distraction helps.

In the afternoon, got a call from Mel-chan. Helpful distraction #1.

After that, I got stuck with organising my digital images on the computer. Helpful distraction #2.

Why do I have so many screenshots from my phones?????

*sigh*

(I actually know the answer but I just want to say that here *haaah*)

Found a software (Files 2 Folder) that enables me to select multiple files and move to a new folder in one (or maybe two) clicks. Like I don't have to do the whole Ctrl+x, create/open new folder & Ctrl+v over and over again. It's an old software but still works in Windows 10 64-bit.

...it looks weird but I can still use it

I also love using the shortcut Alt+p to turn the preview pane on and off. Sometimes I need to use it but I don't want it to be there all the time.

Seven & Seven

Posted in: 2021 posts | Arashi 嵐 | Family | Friends | On This Day | Twitter

Ohhh this might be fun.

I posted twice on this day and month in the past.

First, in 2005. The first year I started blogging.

I think I got chicken pox....(like my brother)....

A post made a day before it was confirmed that I got the chicken pox (or chickenpox).

I got sick pretty late huh but I know people who got it during uni. Read before that the older you are, the worse the effects are to them. Well, at least that's done with.

It all started with my father's shingle that appeared on his stomach. Not going to elaborate much but that fact is stuck in my head because he refused to believe it's shingle that will cause chicken pox. That we will be fine and not get chicken pox. In the end, my siblings and I got sick on the same year.

I was right, dad!

Moving on. The other post is from 2010. A Saturday 9 post!

I feel obliged to answer the questions again.
(with some parts of my old answers)

1. How many of your friendships have lasted more than ten years? Which of your current friends do you feel will still be important to you ten years from now? A few. Very few.

2. When you look at yourself in the mirror, what’s the first thing you look at? My messy hair.

3. Who was the most recent person on your missed call list on your cell phone? What’s your relationship with the person? Someone nicknamed Ina. She's in the same program with me.

4. What did your last text message you received on your cell phone say? An unexciting text message from my telco stating that my number has been topped up with MYR30.

5. How would you “label” yourself? Weird and easily annoyed.

6. What was your favorite age that you’ve been? I don't really have a favourite age. I do have a favourite year though. 2003.

7. What is your current desk top picture? What’s it significant? <look at old post>

8. What was the last thing you said to someone that you‘d like to take back? I don't think I have something I said that I want to take back.

9. If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to go back in time and fix all your mistakes which would you choose? For the current me, I'll choose that million bucks. I can already imagine what plans I'll have for my future using that money. Further studies. Books. Collectibles. Something.

#1 One person. Mel-chan. I hope it will stay the same, ten years from now.

#2 My eyes...? They're visibly red when I pull an all-nighter which might not be good. I tried catching up sleep by sleeping in (till noon) but I'm sure that's not good too.

#3 My sister.

#4 One phone was from MKN asking the people not to be picky with vaccines. The other phone was TAC number-related.

#5 An eccentric alien.

#6 Same answer as before.

#7 This photo from Arashi's Twitter. I just love the black and white theme.

#8 At this moment, nothing came to mind.

#9 Ah. I guess I'll still take the million bucks lol. Same reason as before.

Blog meme from here.

"Long December"

1. Looking back at it now, how were your holidays and your time on New Year's Eve?
Always full of Ohno Satoshi and Arashi related things. I don't remember much about New Year's Eve (don't really care anyway).

2. Do you have any unusual collections?
I collect envelopes from hotels.

3. If you could train a machine to do one thing for you whenever you wanted, what would you have it do?
What would it be, I wonder?

4. What is one thing that makes you cry?
Current life.

5. What do you love to do on the weekend?
Currently, shopping! *Ah, my pocket money!!!* Though I usually prefer to just stay at home and watch something on my laptop. Or sleep because I lost so much sleep during weekdays.

6. Do you and your family get along?
Yes. Sure we had fights from time to time (and made up after that anyway), but I always thought that's the proof that we get along well.

7. Have you ever gotten kicked out somewhere? If yes, do tell.
It happened when I was in Form 6. We, the upper Form 6 students, managed the orientation week for our juniors. It was time for my Biology teacher to talk about his subject to the juniors. My friend and I happened to stay in the same room (usually most of us loitered there during that week) and the Biology teacher suddenly asked us to leave the room. Awkwardly, we did and later on, a friend from other class (humanities stream) told us that he talked about my class. He said we were arrogant students. (I even blogged about this before!)

8. Who do you normally turn to when you need to complain about something?
Twitter/my blog, family, friends. Not in particular order.

9. What is the last thing you ordered on-line?
T-shirts made by Malaysian Arashi fans from here.

----

RIP Diana Wynne Jones.

Posted in: 2010 posts | Blog Meme | Delayed Rebellious Phase (Cringeworthy) | Friends | University: Year 2

I'll start this month with this blog meme. =P

"Friends"

1. How many of your friendships have lasted more than ten years? Which of your current friends do you feel will still be important to you ten years from now?
A few. Very few. I don't want to state the number. I think this is a quite tricky matter. I've had a few BFFs before... and I remember thinking that we'll stay best friends for eternity (even thought of living together when we reached adulthood). But thought changes, situation changes... causing the relationship to change too. Sigh. Now my view on friendship is different from before. It's time to re-connect with my [past] BFFs.

2. When you look at yourself in the mirror, what’s the first thing you look at?
My messy hair. Haha.

3. Who was the most recent person on your missed call list on your cell phone? What’s your relationship with the person?
Someone nicknamed Ina. She's in the same program with me. We are close coursemates.

4. What did your last text message you received on your cell phone say?
An unexciting text message from my telco stating that my number has been topped up with MYR30.

5. How would you “label” yourself?
With my current state of mind : Weird and easily annoyed.

6. What was your favorite age that you’ve been?
Whoa. Hard question. I don't really have a favourite age. I do have a favourite year though. 2003.

7. What is your current desk top picture? What’s it significant?
This :

I love the jemistry. Another reason why I'm stuck with this is the white space. My desktop is full of things, the white space makes it easier to arrange them.

8. What was the last thing you said to someone that you‘d like to take back?
Er... I don't remember. I don't think I have something I said that I want to take back.

9. If you had to choose between a million bucks or to be able to go back in time and fix all your mistakes which would you choose?
Before, I would choose "go back in time and fix all mistakes" but since I saw "Proposal Daisakusen", I don't really care anymore. Maybe there would be one or two mistakes that I would want to go back to (& worth time-travelling for)...

For the current me, I'll choose that million bucks. I can already imagine what plans I'll have for my future using that money. Further studies. Books. Collectibles. Something.

Mundane Updates...
My final exam for Semester 2 officially ended yesterday.

While I think over what useful activities - that would benefit me next semester - that I could do during semester break, I'm reading blogs and watching stuff on YouTube again without feeling guilty (for not studying for exam)...

Some very important issues are being discussed in my family these few days & I'm getting headaches (but that might be because of my bad sleeping routine). But seriously. I never expected to think about STPM and MUET again. The reference books. The syllabuses. The discouraging phase & system. Reminded me of discouraging and evil teachers.

Arrgh. Form 6 memories. The not-good ones.

===

Maybe...
In case you're wondering how the book looks like now... (Twee... on Twitpic
As I have to control myself from buying any books whenever I visit bookstores (See #6), I'm re-reading books I have in collection and maybe finally read that purchased-years-ago-but-haven't-read books. Few weeks ago it was Russell Lee's "True Singapore Ghost Stories"... in which one of them perished in the washing machine (didn't finish reading that one!). At the same time, I'm reading Jane Austen's "Emma".

Mr Knightley remains as my favourite character in the book. Emma? Hmmm. I'm kind of surprised that I want to re-read this now. I still think that the story's slow in the beginning... but it's always fun to read Emma's thoughts.

I love the way Austen described the people in her books. Realistic and simple. But the only way to enjoy that is to read her unabridged version books. Abridged and simplified ones sometimes kill my interest in reading (& maybe prevents me from loving the book). That's what happened to me during Form 5. I read an abridged version of "Pride and Prejudice" that I borrowed from the school library. The story felt flat to me. I was kinda disappointed. Then I gave the book another chance two years ago - I borrowed the unabridged version from the public library - and... fell in love with the story (& Mr Darcy). It was amazing.

Anyway. Back to "Emma". I've always love BFFs->Lovers stories (That's a spoiler BTW). I think that's why I chose this book.

(I would really want to recommend this book to you, Mel-chan... but the slowness of the story may scare you away. What's interesting? The resemblance of the characteristic of certain characters to real life people around us. Oh. And there's also certain events that...)

Dead link removed.

(Eve, YUI's new song "to Mother"!)
I have never seen YUI playing the piano before. But I love the MV.

..also removed.

"Can't Back Down" is really catchy. It's stuck in my head now.

I Won’t Miss You, 2009.

Posted in: 1st post | 2009 posts | Delayed Rebellious Phase (Cringeworthy) | Exam Sem1 | Family | Friends | kudo | Life | Twitter | University | University: Year 1

You broke my heart several times this year…

So many things had happened in my life this year. I became a fan of Jonas Brothers (it's their music that I fell in love into first!) & Demi Lovato (Come on, admit it! Not many girls from Disney can have a great voice like her!). I finally have the courage to meet a dentist after 9 years. My favourite black cat died, murdered by an unknown neighbour. I started tweeting on Twitter. I learnt to drive, got my licence though I don't have the opportunity to drive [my family car] officially yet. I took my first ABRSM practical exam (Grade 1). Joined NaBloPoMo. Blogged everyday on November 2009. Went to Tawau.

And also... I had finally entered university! I'm a year behind compared to my friends who started last year. Better late than never!

Then, in university, I experienced a mild case of culture shock (coursemates from Peninsular Malaysia & Sarawak). I also discovered the hot-tempered/angry side of me. Usually only family and close friends can see my angry side before but university life (minus dorm life) seem to bring out the worst in me. *sigh* I still don't know how to deal with this. It's not really a recommending trait to have, you know. The only bright side of it is I am able to express myself easily (but that might have been because I blog more often this year and started tweeting). The fun part of university life is the access to the library (lol! SO many reference books at the university library!)... Not only that lah! Haha. I went dragon-boating for the 1st time in my life. Performed three songs with my Art Appreciation group members (assignment).

Anyway, though the title of this post sounds resentful, believe me, I'm not. There's just so many sad events I don't want to remember in 2009...

But I'm grateful for the good things that had happened to me throughout this year.

  • I wanted to take "Anthropology" course (1st choice for UPU) in the local university that I will not name here (any comments with the name will be rejected) to avoid being searched online, but I got "Mathematics" with CG (3rd choice!) instead. Maths is always fun, so I was also glad I was offered that course.

  • Pursuing studies near home enables me to continue pursuing my musical skills. I lived off campus because of an impending practical music exam last July. I passed the exam with distinction!

  • I think I'm starting to know myself better. Hopefully I'll be a better person next year...

  • Thank you, God. Thank you, Dad, Mum, @Jvira & Rus. Thank you, Eve, Mel-chan & Ren-chan! Thank you, Miss Chong!

I know this thank you list should be longer... I'll edit later!

2009. You were an important part of my life, but I’m not gonna miss you. Not gonna.

    Christmas at random

Posted in: 2009 posts | at random | Courses | Delayed Rebellious Phase (Cringeworthy) | Family | Friends | Life | University

A christmas edition of "at random" post!

I'm mostly in foul mood during Christmas. (There, I said it.)

    2005-2008 Decembers
I finished my SPM examination on the first half of December. My grandpa died on Dec 11. I received my first cell phone.

No blog posts in year 2006 & 2007.

My family and I were in KL last year's December. See this post & this. I had a 2008 Appreciation Post. Expect a 2009 post soon.

    Awesome Christmas present ever!
Duh. I dunno what's the problem with the university's system lately but it gave me a second chance to register! I get to register for Japanese language class!!! (Not yet at this moment, still 'battling' online). I missed it again!!! Arghh! Anyway, I chose French language (my 2nd choice after Japanese language) this time.

I think my brother's PMR result is his awesome Christmas present. It's amazing he got that result considering how very 'last minute' his revisions were...

    Perfect Christmas
The perfect Christmas I always have in mind (which doesn’t happen often or at all) is this :
    - Christmas sermon. Only.
    - Small gathering consisting of family, relatives & close friends (really, really close ones only.)
    - Christmas movies with heavy christmas spirit themes.
    - Playing Christmas songs on the piano/guitar... singing Christmas songs among family, relatives & close friends.
    - Good food. With me involved in the cooking [the food] process. Barbeque.

All that. Without people I don't recognize. Without people who only attend the church on Christmas day. Without repeating the same thing you said yesterday today.

For once, I want to have this kind of Christmas.

Lastly, I installed a widget for images from here. I've always wanted this but can't find a way to use it with blogger. If you want to see the effect, click these photos... (wait till the page finish loading)
Edited 04-02-2019 - Removed widget but I'll leave the photos here :D

    Happy birthday to me?

Haha. I don’t sound very excited about this, do I ?
    *sigh*
It happened like after 3 weeks of agony – the silent tension between my ex-group members and me and the fact that they are ignoring me now… (Erm. Let’s not get there 1st.) - *BIG sigh*.. yeah. I don’t feel like being excited…
Anyway. I do admire the date.. haha. I mean it’s the 1st day of Sept! It’s such a beautiful date, don’t you think? Easy to remember though there’s not much events (at least those I’m familiar with) on this day.

    “What are you doing?”

Posted in: 1st post | 2009 posts | Delayed Rebellious Phase (Cringeworthy) | Friends | Personal Thoughts | Twitter | University: Year 1

    I’m officially addicted to Twitter.

I started tweeting since April this year and so far have over 600 tweets…  I can’t leave my cell phone at home, not because I need it to text my family or friends, but it’s for the sake of tweeting from wherever I am. Sometimes, the thought(s) just come and I have to tweet it out (even though I doubt that anyone would be interested in reading it…). My cell phone credit is used mostly for tweeting from “mobile web” and “text” (expensive but useful when your cell has low battery) tweets. Wow. Signs of addiction, isn’t it?  Speaking of reading tweets, actually, because tweets are in 140-character format, it’s hard to ignore someone’s tweet. At one glance, you may already read the tweet unconsciously. That is what makes it different from reading blog posts.
I don’t know if other people do it but sometimes when I see a long post I might just skim through it or straight away skip reading it. This is where I see the need of microblogs. I had one blog post in 2005 (when I’m still new to blogging) that only contained two short sentences (I think I’d deleted the posts). That should’ve been tweeted and not blogged.
Oh, yeah. Lately I changed my what-to-tweet-about a bit. I actually like to be witty in my tweets but I always fail to do so (*embarassing!* Akira’s style)… But I’ll keep trying. Hehe. I said before that I don’t really care how many followers I have, but I do  monitor who follows me. I follow back those whose tweets I like to read. I block those who are apparently spam twitters. “Spam-like” (contained many links sometimes business-ish, & I think they expect a follow-back) twitterers – I look forward to be unfollowed.
Recently, I also found many ex-schoolmates/classmates on Twitter. Dunno why, I feel it’s easier to chat on Twitter then messaging on whatever-social-site (though I don’t have an account on facebook). The “message” can be seen publicly if it’s accessed from the tweeter’s twitter site, though. To date, I already dragged 3 people to join Twitter… Ren-chan, Mel-chan & my little sister. If you noticed, I also changed the “featured post” section to feature my latest 4 tweets… quite nice lah, at least to me. ^_^

Tweet me if you are on twitter!

    Happy Thoughts?

    Posted in: 2009 posts | Books | Friends | Interest | Learning to Drive | Life | Me. | My Fangirl Side | Random-ness | Self-talk

    Post: March 3rd, 2009.
Erm. It's March. I will start my driving classes this month.

    Post: March 7th, 2009.
A tiring day of doing nothing but sitting and listening.

    Post: March 11th, 2009.
I haven't read my KPP book.

What happened to my driving lessons?

I was given 1 week to read the KPP book. I took 2 weeks to start reading it. Then it dragged to another week because I was too sad to study the road signs and rules. Last Monday, the driving tutor called and I (kind of) panicked, and said (impulsively) I'll take the 1st Test (the computer test) this Saturday.

    Which is today.

    But... Yokatta!!!!!!!!

Well, I "crammed" the days between Monday and Saturday... and I scored 1 point more than the pass score (42/50). I almost can't believe it because I didn't put much effort. Forty three?! The effort and result do not seem to add up.

Anyway. I can't go to piano class tomorrow because the tutor suggested to me to do the "bengkel" class in which I agreed. Oops. Will do that next week, not tomorrow.

Oh, yeah. Last week, Ms Chong asked me if I did my practice.. I was playing the song I said too cheery for me to play. I answered yes because I did practised that song a day earlier, when my mum was watching a show I hate in the night. *sigh*

I really need to set my priorities correctly.

    But, the thing is...
I'll just say this shamelessly. I know I'm a smart person but I'm also very lazy. It's always 0 or 100 for me. If I started on a project early I could finish it faster than anyone else but when I did it last minute... I may be the last person to hand it in.

    *Stupid, stupid bad habits*

That's one more thing to change about myself.

    ---

I finished "Emma" a few days ago. Finally. I started on Feb 23rd... and it took me one month to finish reading it. Luckily I don't hate Emma. I'm neutral to the title character. Till the end, I'm still loving Mr Knightley!

    But...
I'm sorry to say this but the story didn't really work for me. I mean, I don't find it as romantic as "Pride and Prejudice", not that exciting like "Northanger Abbey" either... I even seem to prefer "Sense and Sensibility" to this...

Well. Not all people like the same thing. People look for different things in books.

I haven't read all Jane Austen books yet, but "Pride and Prejudice" is still my favourite, followed by "Northanger Abbey", "Sense and Sensibility" and "Emma".

    ---

    Erm... One more thing.

Have I said it here that I'm a big fan of "Camp Rock"? (To myself: How old are you anyway?) I already tried to avoid liking anything new... but I can't prevent myself from liking Camp Rock, Demi Lovato... and Joe Jonas...

If you look at my last.fm profile, Jonas Brothers has taken over NEWS in my "Top Artists" chart!

Which may explain why I wasn't bothered (why should I be?) at all when Mel-chan fell in love with Yamapi. *Sorry, Mel! I have to say that here.*

    Haha.

This is only a fever/crush or.. something. It will go away, eventually. I hope. Or not... I think my NEWS fever will be back because they are going to have a new single this month! Koi no ABO! What a title! But I can't wait, anyway!

Obviously someone is in a good mood today.

    KPP

Posted in: 2009 posts | Friends | Learning to Drive | Life | Me.

A tiring day of doing nothing but sitting and listening.

It's my own fault, actually. I slept so late last night even though I know I need to get up early because my driving tutor will come to pick me up. I was sleepy during the first session and I kept dozing off during the second session. It didn't help when the "talkers" talked too much, too many "beating about the bush" talks - it seems to take forever to reach the point.

*sigh* But it's compulsory... anyway. I'm given a week to digest the "text book" (as the second talker said it) and give a call to my tutor when I'm done.

I'm feeling a bit weird... okay maybe more of a mix of two or three kind of feelings. I mean - "I'm learning a new skill!"... and yet I'm not sure if I can pull it off.

It sure made me feel adult-like. (I'm twenty and my sister still thinks me childish.)

Oh, yeah. Initially, I was supposed to join this KPP thing with my nakama, Ren-chan. But in the end, I ended up learning to drive with Mel-chan's ex-tutor.

I feel so lucky because Mel-chan shared her experience with me - so I kind of know what to expect from that tutor.

    Imperfect is perfect?

Posted in: # Nobuta wo Produce | 2009 posts | Friends | Personal Thoughts | トリック | 山下智久

    Need to get this out.

Yesterday, Mel-chan & I had a brief discussion about Nobuta wo Produce. She said something that I've posted here before, with an opposite view. I didn't remember it yesterday so I didn't talk about it with her.

I've always love the friendship theme in "Nobuta"... I love how three different people with different characteristics (whom you'll unlikely see to be friends) become best friends. They seem to complete each other's gap; they brought out the best in each other... listen to each other's problems (indirectly) and inner feelings. Such friendship to exist in such condition was a factor that amused me greatly. Which was why I was kind of surprised that she said the story isn't deep enough. But then... I had the advantage to watch it when it was still airing. That time, Hana Yori Dango Returns haven't materialized. I remembered comparing Nobuta with Hana Yori Dango (Season 1) in a post made in 2006... It was a brief review on doramas I watched at that time.
Nobuta wo Produce [4.8/5]--- Where did the 0.2 go? They didn't make Akira & Nobuta together (or at least give some hint that Nobuta likes him) so that's where the 0.2 went. I tried making my mum watch this but she said she's tired of school doramas (she watched Gokusen with me).. But actually, this dorama is different, although it's setting is at school, in my humble opinion, it's more of a friendship dorama (platonic friendship) which makes it unique & different. Shuji reminds me of a [childhood] friend of mine in school.. like that thinking of winning the 'games' in everyday life, having so many masks put on your face.. she really similar to Shuji (..chotto.. then that means I'm [her?] Akira then? cos most of the time I can see through her like Akira... AKIRA SHOCK!)...

About the ending: LOL...it really shocked me seeing Akira at Shuji's new school, I thought it was only an illusion. But it's really him (& kakkoi as usual... :PP).. I don't quite like the idea of them being separated but it's Nobuta's wish so...I'm going to accept as what it is. Having Akira & Shuji in the same school was not a bad idea.

Hana Yori Dango[4/5]--- I was waiting for this last year (didn't pay much attention to Nobuta) & this proved to be a very compact version (yet good) of the manga itself. I never read the manga fully but I know there are some scenes in the manga not included in the live-action version. Some ardent fans of the manga are not happy with it, but seeing it from the entertainment point of view, one can't deny that the production/filming unit made a great job for this. What attracted me most was MatsuJun & Oguri Shun's performance in this dorama. MatsuJun's Tsukasa (aka Dao Ming Si) was IMO more lively than Jerry Yan's. I like Tsukasa & I like both actor's portrayal but MatsuJun's did well with the part of giving appropriate expressions which Jerry somewhat lack of. The same goes to Oguri Shun's Hanazawa Rui (aka Hua Ze Lei). I never like Vic Chou's Hua Ze Lei in Meteor Garden (although I find him likeable in the second Meteor Garden)..& I was always rooting for Jerry's Dao Ming Si but when it came to Hana Yori Dango.. it's quite hard to choose which one to root for..

About the ending: I actually cried watching the last episode! haha.. esp the part where Tsukasa leaving her behind.

    Addendum:
*I like Nobuta wo Produce more than Hana Yori Dango because the NWP's plot seems thicker & new (to me) than HYD
    * I really think there should be a Special Dorama for both of this dorama...*hoping*
See that red sentence? I was comparing Nobuta with the first HYD. Surprisingly, I like watching the second season of HYD more than the first one. But I don't think I'll change my initial opinion... (Hey, that was my very first impression of Nobuta! I couldn't dismiss it just like that.)

Maybe our difference in opinions stemmed from our interests - what we like to see in a drama or character - because for example, in Nodame Cantabile she loves Chiaki and hates Nodame while I'm the other way round. I think I've developed the love for [seems] imperfect, dark horse-like characters since I watched Trick and later, Nobuta. I don't even like Naoki (Itazura na Kiss)/Zhi Shu (It Started with a Kiss) and finding it hard why almost everyone in the dramas I mentioned is head over heels in love with this character (but then, I don't like Kotoko/Xiang Qin too... which is a whole different matter to discuss about - but I won't deny that Ariel Lin is a talented actress/singer).

Nevertheless, I'm enjoying these kind of discussions. I always watch dramas and develop many opinions about it but don't have anyone to "throw" it at... Even though Mel-chan have different sentiments with mine - which I professed, wasn't easy at first to accept - it's very refreshing hearing an opinion about something I'm familiar with from a different point of view.

The best thing is it makes me to blog more.

    A Mix of Something

    Posted in: 2009 posts | Friends | Life | Me. | Reviews

    *sigh*

I'm really trying to be a good best friend now. I already planned weeks before my friends and siblings birthdays.

    And this month - it's Mel-chan's birthday!

I'm so conceitedly proud of myself (although the day hasn't arrived)!

    Haha

As in my post earlier, I had started working... [so] semi-part timely. My latest erm... new experience was making calls to strangers. Try imagining my reaction when I was told "You have to make calls to this list of people and ask them ---.." Okay. No surprise, actually. I went, "umph... okay." I always suspected that I can be good at this. But I never had the courage to [even] order Pizza-hut home delivery. I'm that pathetic. Anyway. The most terrible moments were when I had to call someone who knows me... and also when I called them at the wrong time (meetings and such)... *relief sigh* I'm glad that's over. Fortunately, I felt like laughing all the time that I think the impression (of my voice) I gave them wasn't that bad. I know my voice sounded different in the phone so that's why I was brave enough to telephone an old childhood friend (but doesn't keep in touch with each other anymore). I felt really stupid and ridiculous treating [in the phone] anyone who knows me in a business-like manner. But the work itself (someone up-there requested it) was already very ridiculous!

    *sigh. sigh.*

I haven't had the courage to update my drama reviews. I don't know what's holding me back! Hmmm... Change of topic: "Corner with Love" is shown in Astro AEC channel... I've watched it a bit in 8TV but never completely. Even when it's in AEC, I didn't watch it faithfully... I don't have the right to commend a drama I haven't watch but I do have some complaints of the casts. I believe there can be a sweet chemistry between Xin Lei and Qin Lang, but it seems to take forever to see it properly. But then, remember, I haven't watch it so I might had missed some significant scenes. My chief complaints weren't about Barbie Xu (I always think she is a good actress) and Show Lo (sometimes his expression looks fake but he's okay)... It's the side characters. I can't stand Lu Jia Xin (Cai Xiao Yang and and Carolyn Chen (Wen Bi Zhu)'s portrayals. The other male characters weren't that better either.

Anyway. I will [try to] watch this so that I can give it a proper review (having said all these without finish watching it.)

    My Own Appreciation Day

Posted in: 2008 posts | Cringy Teenage Years | Family | Friends | Life | Me. | Personal Thoughts

I hardly know what to say on this last day of year 2008.

It might be better if I list down my resolutions for 2009... but that never seldom works for me. Whatever I've planned beforehand always get done like.. almost 50% only... shamefully, unplanned things are (most of the time) given full attention, hence they always get done before I even realize it.

Anyway. A thought came to me a few days ago. I always have something to say in my blog but lately I seem to avoid blogging anything... What happened? I think it has something to do with my previous, previous post. But for this last day (of 2008), I'm determined to face this blog again.

Well... I'm going to list down things that I must give my appreciation to for this year.

First of all, "Thank you, God."
You've taken care of my health throughout this year. I didn't catch any colds in the end of year (which I always do in the past). I know I'm strong-headed sometimes and that you had always tried to tell me things (I should know) which I don't always listen to. An incident (which I won't elaborate) that happened in Nov/Dec had dragged me back to my senses. I realised I need to do a major change to my way of thinking and seeing things. I don't know how yet but hopefully you'll continue to remind me to change myself.

    "Thank you, mum and dad."

It's very suprising how much a parent can be patient and forgiving towards a stubborn and idealistic daughter like me. I can't ask for more. They are always there - my mum and my dad. They may not be perfect but I'm not a perfect daughter too, you know... When I screwed up last year, they said "It's okay. You've done your best." It pained me a bit because I knew I haven't done my best. Till now, I'm still uncertain if I ever going to do my best again. Their encouragement and support always remind me of the phrase, "Never give up. Let failure be your teacher." With such treatment, I'm assured that if I ever screw up again in the future, they will not turn me away. Here I'll say the words that's hard to be spoken face to face: I love you both.

"Thank you to my little sister and little brother."

In some weird, twisted way, both of you had become a good listener to my everyday ramblings. Sure, there were times where I was really angry with both of you... But we are family. Family does that. They annoy and please you at the same time.

    "Thank you, Mel-chan and Ren-chan."

These were the only two close friends I've kept in touch with throughout the year.(I know I'm a terrible friend but that's not the point of discussion right now) Mel-chan and I are childhood friends. Ren-chan was my form 6 classmate. I'd told them my thoughts about my future recently - something like (although not exact words) 'What will they think of me if I do etc... Will they think less of me?'...
    Both were supportive.
Ren-chan said she'll support me no matter what.
My conversation with Mel-chan was more like me opening up to her (though she might think otherwise). I told her what was in my mind recently. She thinks my other choices are interesting but at the same time wants me to keep in mind about the prospects. She also let me know that there's way to realize my original ambition if I choose to stick to it.

    "Thank you, Miss Chong."

I'm really grateful that she would accept an adult piano student like me. I'm not sure how I compare to her other younger students but hopefully not that bad.

...and last but not least, thank you to those I didn't mention specifically in this post, which had became a part of my life in 2008.

    You are my best friend...

Posted in: 2008 posts | Cringy Teenage Years | Friends | Life | Me.

For this post, I'm dedicating this song "Best Friend" (romaji lyric) by NEWS.... for my dear friend (I'll call her) Mel-chan.

Translation is from Megchan's J-Pop Pages...
I don't know if I'm allowed to copy it here so let me know (nicely) if I shouldn't have done it.
Words in blue are words for my friend and it's not part of the translation.
We'd get excited over stupid stuff
    Yes. We always do.
And before I knew it, we'd laughed til morning
    Remember our late-night/early-morning chats?

We're supposedly adults now, but nothing's changed

    You are my best friend
It's embarrassing, so I can never say thank you
Why does friends end up like this? ^_^
    This isn't anyplace special
But I want to stay here forever

The streets where we grew up
    Have changed since those days

But as the seasons pass, please don't ever change

    You are my best friend
Sometimes we fight over little things
    Have we ever fought before?
But the more we engage each other
The more we understand each other

I'm sure I'll never say it out loud
But the truth is, when I'm with you
Is when my heart is warmest

    You are my best friend
It's embarrassing, so I can never say thank you
    This isn't anyplace special
But I want to stay here forever

    You are my best friend
    We are never alone
You're the only one who shows me such casual kindness
    Thank you

Most of the lyric already said what I want to say.
She is now moving on with a new phase of life (See this post)... I can only pray and wish the best for her. We are now fighting different battle fields.

This is a "thank you post" for the long "thank you note"(letter) she gave me... I like the idea of being an eccentric person (Yes, honestly! ^_^).

I don't think I deserve what she said in the letter... I'm never a good friend for her... or anyone. Sometimes I forgot my friends' birthdays... And when I realise the date, I'm out of money (to buy present of course)... I'm the worst!

But... I do have something like Dr. Wilson to Dr. House kind of friendship with her. We can be each other's confidante... and my blood type is O+ (you'll understand this if you watch House)... I can become a listener to her problems or 心事...

Okay. Briefly... The story goes like this. (Fortunately) I remembered her birthday (25th Feb) this year but I don't know what to give her. I'm lazy to go through the "Should I get this... or that" process (you know, browsing for a long time in the shop... and at last you bought something for yourself instead of the present)... So I settled down on the idea of getting her a book she longed to read. It's VERY HARD to find "Gone with the Wind" in the local bookstores (in Sabah) and she never found it at the library (although in their listing it's not borrowed by anyone). I checked MPH & Kinokuniya online but they didn't seem to have any stock at that time. I have to make sure the cover is okay too... I don't want any cover that... erm... that might give other people a "different impression" on the owner.

Initially I didn't want to tell her but I have to explain myself for being the only person in the world who didn't give her a birthday present on her birthday. I told her casually that I was thinking of giving her the book but can't find it in between our phone chats. I don't know if she believed me at that time but I was adamant to keep my promise. She has always wanted to read the book.

At last, I found it some weeks ago at Kinokuniya online. You don't know how happy I was when I got it, I was thinking "Now she can finally read the book!" I didn't bother to tell her that day's afternoon we talked on the phone.. (I kept smiled secretly...)

On the day I finally gave her, she thought I was returning her other things (that she asked me to keep temporarily... I don't mind)... I was okay with that misunderstanding because this is suppose to be a big surprise to her. It's no fun if she already knew what's inside. I was just worried she won't open it (because she don't want to face "the other things")... Fortunately, I also included the DVDs of several jdoramas I burned for her (yeah, I want to promote jdorama and Yamapi to her *smiles cheekily*) inside. She has to open it sooner or later.

I thought she'll call me within the week but she didn't. That's because she's being busy with her "preparations". She told me that just now. But before, being a pessimistic person, I was thinking:"Did I gave her too much dorama? That she doesn't like the idea of me spending my time burning DVDs?... or is it that... She hates Kurosagi and can't tell me so because I LOVE it so much?... She doesn't like the cover of the book?... etc"

And when I heard that she's in university already I was thinking, why didn't she tell me personally? I knew it's bound to happen around this month but why kept it a secret from me?? I knew about it from a third person.. Do you know how sad I was? I thought she'll forget about me now that she's at a new phase of life. Well. The only thing that's a relief was I gave her something she wanted since Form 5 (yr 2005)...

    Anyway. I was wrong.

I should never doubt my friend.
My best friend, to be exact.
Although, we never talked of it that way.
    We have a weird relationship.
Like Dr. House and Dr. Wilson.
...with me as her Dr. Wilson.
    Like Shuuji and Akira.
...me is Akira cos I'm the eccentric one. Haha.

    To Mel-chan...
    I'm sorry I gave you a (belated) birthday present;
    I'm very glad that you like it;
    I didn't do it to gain any selfish benefits;
I just want to give you a present that will make you happy.

Thank you for the "Thank You Note"... I'm very touched by it.

    Moving on

Posted in: ~Friday Posts | 2008 posts | Cringy Teenage Years | Friends | Life | Personal Thoughts

I'd had chats over the phone for these few months with a close friend of mine (We'll call her Mel). We did something, well, this thing I would call, terrible, and we had a hard time forgiving ourselves. Especially last month, I guess.
"Why did we let it happened?"
    "How are you doing now?"
    "Still..."
Then we'll talk for hours about our misery and thoughts.

The worst time has passed and I don't find it surprising that we are still alive. Do anyone notice how we often dread ourselves with unnecessary fears before something bad happened?... hoping that the world will split and swallow you up or you suddenly drop dead (literally) on that inauspicious moment... And then when it really happen, nothing really happened. You are still breathing. It didn't kill you. Of course, unless you have a bad heart.

Lesson of the day: Whatever happened, good or bad, we will still have to move on. So stop dwelling in the past.

Anyway. Mel and I might go on different roads... She's taking a step further while I... I'm stepping on an extra road before hers. I wish all the best for her.

I'm tired of worrying about what others say about me. They are just throwing words and advice and the person who picks them all, thinking it's important, is just making himself a fool. I'm not talking about someone. It's just something I had in my head for a long time.

Dakara, I won't care about what people [will] say about my extra road. This is a fight with myself and I'm determined to win over myself.

    I detest myself.

Can't believe it's almost a month after I last updated my blog...

So many things to tell.. All would be told in random order...

Firstly, we had "Majlis Anugerah etc etc" last Monday.. I almost forgot that this kind of things exist in school.. & I got the highest marks for Maths, MUET & BIO(! Tian ah!) for last year's exam (I think.).. How embarassing! It's not that high....!!!!! Not really sth to be proud of...

Last week, there was a SNAKE in our classroom! (LOL.. funnily, it was spotted near our class's trash can, a trash-filled trash can.) It was small but enough to scare me off my ecological project site (it was at the back of our class)! Good thing we finished everything & what's left was to remove the line transects (Done that already).

Had an argument with mum a few days ago. It was early in the morning. It's a misunderstanding. But that's not the point. I was SO mad that she misjudged me, that I walked into my class with tears in my eyes. I didn't care if my classmates saw me in such an ugly situation, at that time I really feel geram... I didn't know what they think of me.. I went outside & sat on a bench, trying to calm myself. It was the first time such thing happened to me in school. But I felt somewhat moved by my classmates care. They went to see me & asked what's the matter. I silented. But later on I opened up to some friends who stayed over. They told about their stories (regarding family matters) & we had some relieving laughs later on. It was a horrible morning, but thanks to them, my day was not really affected by the incidence (managed to focus on teacher).. Form 6 doesn't seem to be just Form 6 to me since then.. All fourteen of us are like family... Maybe the fact that our tables were arranged in a U shape enable us to look at each other more closer than before. (Teachers seem closer too... easier to ask them Qs now.) I would never want to lose contact with my f6 classmates.
