Tempted

Posted in: 2023 posts | Books | Online Shopping | Weekend Musings

I'm having a bit too much fun with window-shopping preloved books on Shopee *sigh*

Very tempted to get some of them just because they are sold so cheaply... even though I know nothing about the book or the author. Okay, I do know some of the authors (& read their other works)... my point is, I don't need these BUT getting them at that price might be best to experience the books without paying the full price. Obviously, it's amazing how I can say this when I'm in a middle of a physical book reading slump lol

Hah.......

Posted in: 2023 posts | Manga | Reading | Weekend Musings

I've heard of the genre "Romantasy" before... but today's the first time I knew about "Rofan", which means the same thing - Romance Fantasy.

...can you guess what I've been reading a lot recently? :P

Anyway, from what I understand about romantasy.... I don't think I've ever read a novel of that genre (maybe I did and just forgot about it). I'm not sure if I have them in my bookshelf... but if you ask me now, I'm not interested in reading one. Novels and anything similar, that is. I'm very interested in the genre for manga though! Pretty sure some of those isekai and villainess stories I read are under that genre. They are very addicting. Ah. I guess that means I do read them (or has the possibility of reading them) if I'm seeking for the novels/light novels the manga are based on to read... ah, how complicated.

Joker

Posted in: # Call Me By Fire | # Sei and Albert | 2023 posts | Anime | Death | Interest: TV | Nicholas Teo 張棟樑 | Weekend Musings | Youtube

Some thoughts today~

CMBF #6
Just finished watching both parts of #6. Loved the performances in this episode! Quite amused by Nicholas Teo having a hard time doing an evil smile/laugh for his tribe's song ("Joker")... & their stage concept was really fun (I love the circus theme)! Had goosebumps watching them - I think they deserve their win.

...aaah I guess it's time to make my own Youtube playlist for my favourite performances on "Call Me By Fire" so that I can play them easily in the future~

Anime
Fall season for anime has started (including "The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent" S2!). I think I'm not going to [hopefully] follow many from the beginning... maybe only the familiar ones (I guess it's better that way since I need to re-watch the previous season of some of them...). I'll wait maybe five episodes before deciding to watch any new ones.

Reading
I might try to finish "The Homeward Bounders" tomorrow. Haaah... haven't decide what to read after that.

Some "cleaning"
This will be pretty gross to talk about but I really want to mention it here. We have been having frequent visits by a couple of cats recently (one stray cat, one neighbour's "lost" cat)... and the stray one was being weird! He brought a dead rat and a dead bird and left them in front of the entrance. Gah. Had to dispose them today ASAP before they rot more because I don't want to deal with the dead carcass smell in the future (ahhh I can already imagine the smell......). I guess they're pretty recent because I was still able to be near them [to pick them up].

It rained again

Posted in: 2023 posts | Anime | No Mood | Online Shopping | The Weather Looks... | Weekend Musings | Youtube

Random thoughts of the day...

✖ Picking a book by its cover
Been watching some book haul videos on Youtube. Suddenly had the thought that I would be so mad with a book that has a very nice cover but is not a good read. Like, that will feel like a fraud to me.

✖ Reading slump ≠ Buying books
I just love how these two co-exist in my current life XD. I don't wanna read more [physical] books... but I do want to buy more books, thank you very much. *sigh* There is some good in it though, I think I'm more picky because I'm distrustful at the same time.

✖ Quiet time
I usually like to listen to music while I read but I find them distracting recently. Sometimes I would prefer playing music without lyrics...

✖ Anime
I might have watched/followed too many this season... most of them are already near the end and I seem to have gotten bored of few of them (and super annoyed by one of them). I will still watch them until the end but I probably won't focus much and will use the 2x speed feature on Youtube more often.

MTL

Posted in: 2023 posts | Manga | My Head Hurts | Reading | Weekend Musings

■ Mood: Confused
■ Drink: Milk tea

Things that give me headache:
1. Hate-reading books
2. Skipping a night's sleep
3. Not drinking enough water
4. ...badly translated manga (T_T)

Badly translated manga.

Sigh. It was entertaining for a few chapters then it gets distracting and mess with your head. Imagine a serious scene... with ridiculous-sounding sentences that don't fit the scene. I guess it could've been machine translation.. ah if that's the case, then it gives me second-hand embarrassment with how nicely it was edited but the words are complete garbage (sorry, not sorry).

Heart-warming

Posted in: # 7th Time Loop | 2023 posts | My Fangirl Side | Reading | Weekend Musings

...aaaahh

I'm near the end of Volume 4 and I feel nervous...! It was fun reading about their "fight" (because it's declared one-sidedly) though.. I mean Rishe kinda turned into a Tsundere (LOL) during the fight - an adorable one too, partially due to lack of experience - and Arnold was sweet to her the whole time. Gah! How is it that they can be heart-warming and worrisome at the same time???

Anyway... I've started looking for the next book to read and it scares me. It's too risky. What if it's not good....??? Better stick to books I have yet to finish, I guess. Haaaah... but I might change my mind later.. I don't know...

I'm being mean again today

Posted in: # 7th Time Loop | 2023 posts | Anime | Books | Library | My Dark Side | Online Shopping Bag | Piano | Reading | Web Novels | Weekend Musings

■ Mood: Anxiously excited
■ Drink: Iced Instant Coffee

I was in the middle of reading Volume 4 of "7th Time Loop" when a thought came to me. I might not want to read the web novel after this...??? Like, I don't want to spoil myself... or want to keep it a surprise or something???

NAAAHHH I'm just afraid of reading what's ahead I guess... I'm worried that something bad will happen (though it's already implied that from the beginning duh!) Ahhh this author always write stories like these...! I am reading two of her other stories that also have this "danger lurking behind" feeling to it... [& without shame] I ate it all up. Can't help it, my kind of story :P

In the end, I think I would read the web novel anyway... Out of fervent curiosity (unfortunately)... and fear of missing out. I need to know as much as I can...

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Received some more books via mail today.

  • "What You Are Looking For is in the Library" - ...Well, because it has library in the title XD
  • "The Forest of Wool and Steel" - This is about piano-tuners! Which I think is quite rare to find in fiction books.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Had a polarizing reaction towards anime today. The latest episode of "The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior" (#10) was crazy good (Pride was too cool near the end 😭🤩)... and then latest episode of "Sugar Apple Fairy Tale" (#22) [grrh almost typed out "Sugar Honey Iced Tea" this time] was... MEH 😑😒.

I really don't like Anne, huh. At this point, it's just me hate-watching the show. Like, I can't wait for this anime to end because I don't want to watch her anymore! When the villain talked about wiping out humans (not exact words), I find myself agreeing with him lol...[....and here I am siding(?) with the villains again *sigh*]. The only scenes I can watch are scenes without Anne. Barely. Because some of them like to talk about her. (WHO CARES) If only there's a way to automatically blur out her appearance in the anime... and maybe mute her lines because I don't wanna hear her speak a word 🙄

Happier

Posted in: 2023 posts | Books | Reading | Weekend Musings

Short... thoughts:
♛ Another tower of books fell down... (yes yes, haven't sort those out yet lol).
♛ Made a bit progress on "Midnight in Austenland" today... still interesting. Maybe I'll finish it soon?
♛ Something I forgot mention yesterday: Looking at books I've read in the past... I think I gave harsh ratings to some of them but I don't want to go reread them to check if the ratings are justified. I'll just trust past-me's judgement for now :P
♛ ...more and more tabs added *sigh*
♛ Some self-reflection(?) on reading slumps: I do always get them in the past. It's nothing new. And some were caused by reading another media (manga XD). Interestingly, I still managed to read a few books every year. So... I won't sweat over it now and just indulge myself in manga and web novels. They make me happier.
♛ I guess that means more aggressive mood reading for physical books... and less book affairs, maybe? It feels less tiring when I just focus on one book to finish at a time. Still possible to start multiple though but I won't do that now.

Too Many Tabs

Posted in: 2023 posts | Manga | Reading | Web Novels | Weekend Musings

Ah.... it has been days (maybe weeks) but I'm having a bad case of tabitis in GChrome on the desktop. I just need to read them but I procrastinate... and I keep adding more tabs *sigh*

So, how's my life after I decided to not start reading any new physical books? Pretty normal, I think. I actually feel some kind of relief(?). I'm probably going to read more web novels so there might be more posts mentioning that in the future :P... Although it's not like I won't read any physical books... it's going to be decided by my mood at that time lol. I'm sure I'll read some [physical] light novels, because I want to. I guess in the end, it's just me not wanting to pick books blindly from the jar... for now. Already had two books with half stars rating just from the jar this year. It feels like I lost trust in humanity or something because they let these books get published... --just me being biased, some people enjoyed them (don't know, don't want to care). And both are unnecessarily long! Now I look at thick books with distrusting eyes, it's that bad!

Well, I also complain about web novels having many chapters but... huh.. I guess web novels are easier to DNF compared to purchased books...

Dead Links

Posted in: 2023 posts | Weekend Musings

I've been organising my Chrome bookmarks today.

Not fun. Never thought I could be emotional(?) seeing so many dead links. Some of them are websites I used to go in the past... so it feels weird.

Begrudgingly added the "Bookmarks clean up" extension to Chrome to help with the organising.

I also [finally] made an account on fanfiction.net. Not because I'm going to debut my HLITF harem fanfic (huehuehue), but to "bookmark" fics I'm invested in (apparently, since they are in my Chrome bookmarks) by following/favouriting them.

Dead Tumblr accounts/posts, dead LJ accounts/posts, abandoned(?) forum... speaking of forums, I actually posted some minor (event) walkthroughs on kokoro-cafe.net..? I'm surprised that I post anything at all because I usually just lurk around. I don't know why I feel embarrassed to see them though lol.

...this might take longer than a few days to finish *sigh*

Distracted Again

Posted in: 2023 posts | Anime | Art Stuff | Reading | The Weather Looks... | Utterly Distracted | Weekend Musings

Sunny Saturday. Which means it should have been a good day... but why do I feel kind of mean today?

Since Thursday's post, I...
  • Found two more anime I enjoy watching (one more than the other):
    1. "Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill" -
*the title is so long!!!* wholesome isekai-themed anime!
    2. "Sugar Apple Fairy Tale" - the MC can be annoying sometimes but she hasn't annoy me enough to DNF it
  • Want to start drawing Pakho Chau but since I can't find my art stuff, (it's there somewhere, I just need to organise my room *sigh*) I've been procrastinating...
  • Have continued reading "The Unreal & The Real" - very slow progress. The font size is so small and the paragraphs look so dense because of that... it takes more effort than usual to read the book. It is easy to read though so far (I don't know why I keep expecting it to be like Conrad's book :/...). I don't think I'll be able to finish this in two weeks... which means... I might not pick a new book this month. I think doing so will be better for me, mentally :)
  • Want to sing...? - when was the last time I sing?
  • Think losing trust on someone can be freeing and calming. Sometimes, you have to take that away from those who don't deserve it to move forward.
  • Still get easily distracted
  • Want to have a good laugh

Took me almost two hours to publish this because I kept getting distracted lol

Nothing

Posted in: 2023 posts | Interest: TV | Our Water Woes | Weekend Musings

It's nothing important but I think I figured out why I can't stop watching "His Dark Materials". Ruth Wilson. Her character there is quite a complicated person and it's actually nice to see how she portrayed the character.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Been contemplating about doing the jar today. Kind of worried that I'm going to pick out a "difficult" one. I haven't check but I don't think I like much the books I picked on Saturdays... or if I do like it, it took longer to finish. Which is why I'm not doing it today lol

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

The water pressure went back to normal earlier than usual today. I get to do early night(?) laundry. It sounds like I'm getting used to doing them at night, huh... I feel like I sleep better these few weeks. If I decide to read in bed, I can just read as long as I want without worrying if I can wake up early or not. I do still prefer doing laundry in the morning though.

Not sure what I'll do next week.

"good ppl"

Posted in: 2023 posts | Books | Netflix | No Mood | Online Shopping | Weekend Musings

I love computer screen movies~! Unfortunately, I don't find many of those on Netflix (maybe I have to search harder).

Random thought. I was watching "Unfriended" and there's this one scene where the main character said she and her friends are good people. Ermm... generally, I don't think "good people" will call themselves good people...? But... maybe that's just me. Maybe those people are grey. Maybe they are arrogant or narcissistic, but has a good heart (=good people???).

Anyway, found something on Carousell. And by found, I mean purchased XD... I'm so rusty there omg lol... Probably purchased too early (because the seller is not able to ship until next week) but I can't risk not getting the book (one of the "listing" I found on Carousell was a want-to-buy for that particular book). Maybe getting it reserved first (and pay next week) is an option too(? didn't I say I'm rusty haha)... but that's still risky! I need to get it ASAP!

Long Paper

Posted in: 2022 posts | Random-ness | Weekend Musings

I'm still shredding paper this month and... I just found the longest paper (it's like 8 A4 papers wide x 3 A4 papers high) in my pile. It might sound petty to you but I'm very excited! I'm going to cut it wide-wise because who doesn't want to shred a paper that long??? What, it's just me??? XD

I don't know

Posted in: 2022 posts | Twitter | Weekend Musings

Unfortunately, I'm kind of semi-back to checking stuff on Twitter because of recent news... Most people are looking for an alternative to Twitter and I'm not sure if I want to go look for one...? I don't know... I don't really have any needs for a new SNS account. I did try checking out some new names (Mastodon - seems complicated / Hive [Social] - just read that it's offline as of now) but hmmmmm... One of the alternatives is Tumblr - got that one covered, at least lol - but I think I lean more to sticking to what I have now.

To be honest, I'm not really sure. Might even change my mind in the future. I... probably should go revive(?) my discord account, just in case.

Salty Tears

Posted in: # Ryan Reynolds | 2022 posts | Family | I Need to Talk About My Dreams | LibraryThing | Life: Anecdotes | Spotify | Tumblr | Uta no Prince-sama | Weekend Musings

Let me just list out some things I forgot to include in my posts this week:
  • Had a dream few days ago about alien invasion. These aliens came here and somehow "stole" our technology... I don't know how they do it but whatever technology we have isn't usable anymore. And they want to kill humans. It felt more like a thriller really. Fun... scary dream.
  • Just realised that I can't play UtaPri songs anymore on Spotify (they got geo-blocked)... :\
  • Yesterday saw this on Tumblr. Important Blue Internet Checkmarks XD... Loved that lol.. Saw some accounts who got it already, I think it looks nice :P
    • Also, Ryan Reynolds is on Tumblr... (Funny thing is I knew about it from an ask on Neil Gaiman's Tumblr haha).
    • ...It's probably time to tidy up my digital followings/subscriptions again..
  • "Buying another book already owned" has happened to my mother XD (... though it kind of serves as a reminder for me to start putting the books from the family bookshelves in LibraryThing)
  • So... I just knew from an e-mail yesterday that CIMB's Kwik prepaid credit card is being discontinued... I applied for that years ago because I had problems with linking my Maybank ATM debit card to Google Play/Wallet (it was during its early days). In the end, I didn't really use it much other than for Spotify's subscription... and when I buy games on Origin and Epic, I guess. Honestly, I'm quite glad that this happen. Now I don't have to worry about that card anymore.
  • Been having dry eyelids problems (mostly on my right eye) since last month... It can get itchy whenever I go out and the sun is very strong. Recently I've tried wearing an eyepatch when I need to go out to get the laundry (although it has been raining more recently so there's really no need lol)... I mean, my point of telling this is... now I can't cry freely [for fictional characters] because the salty tears make it itchy. Yeah, I just want to complain about that haha.. I have to stop watching or reading if it's going to get me teary-eyed... Damn, I can't even yawn - if that is even possible (sleep early?) - or I'll get tears in my eyes. Sweating is hell :(

...That's all, for now.

An 11.11 post

Posted in: # Mass Effect | 2022 posts | About Blogging | No Mood | Weekend Musings

It happened.

It wasn't January 23rd. I don't know the exact date but I'm pretty sure it's now... or since few months ago.

It's the day I feel like abandoning my non-existent New Year resolution.

Damn this feeling!

...Although it's kind of funny posting this a day after yesterday's post lol.. I guess I just want to acknowledge this. I've been skipping blog-posting more recently. It's not like I feel guilty or anything. I just think it's proof that I've been kind of unmotivated these past few months. Hmmm.. I guess it's a bit like a burnout?

So what am I going to do to deal with this?

Nothing much, I think. It's really a me problem. I might find new ways to get creative with my posts (say, what do you think of me blogging about my gaming adventures in the future?.... it might just be about Mass Effect but still.. LOL). Maybe make a non-rigid soft (rough?) schedule/timetable? (that I might have fun creating but won't follow closely lol)

Manga Weekend

Posted in: 2022 posts | Life: Anecdotes | Manga | Reading | Shopping Bag | Weekend Musings

Sleep... is still messed up. I mean, I'm still sleeping but there's just something that feels different about it. Weekend mood is weird.

Went to Imago yesterday. Best time to go to any shopping malls is during weekdays. Not that many people around. So... of course, I went to Popular bookstore lol. It's great seeing them full of books again... with their expensive retail price tags. Almost want to buy the only Jin Yong book I can find there (I'm still collecting btw... Might read it soon because I'm like in mood for wuxia stories after watching "Legend of Fei"). Did buy some manga plus a light novel though (just the usual shoujo and josei stuff.. with some horror-themed ones)  so... I'm gonna go read them after this. Hopefully that will bring back my reading mood for non-manga books.

I don't want it

Posted in: 2022 posts | Family | Michael Crichton | My Paranoid Side | Reading | Weekend Musings

Finally finished "Easy Go"~~~! I think I like this best among the John Lange books I've read (only "Drug of Choice" and "Scratch One" so far). The ending made me smile.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

This morning, a close family member just informed in our family Whatsapp group that he's positive for COVID-19. He's working from home so he thought he probably caught it when he went out to buy food.

HAAAAAH

This is the first time this happened to an immediate family member. He's vaccinated and boosted so I think he'll be okay. But... honestly, this makes me don't want to get out of the house more. I don't trust... people. I don't want to get back to that normal situation where you shake hands with people like crazy. I've expressed this in a post before the pandemic was even official. Now if I really have to get out, I will be rude and refuse your handshakes.

Anyway, watch out for yourself and maybe... don't be too positive (no pun intended), stay a bit conservative about the idea of getting out and travelling... I know people is hard to control especially it's like they just "got out of cage" and in "back to [old] normal, baby~~!!!" mentality. Well, you don't need to listen to me really - who am I to you anyway, right? - I just wish that you'll think twice and be prepared for the worst if you're going to take the risk.

Take care.

...and don't shake hands with me.

Friday Shower Thoughts

Posted in: 2022 posts | About Blogging | Reading | Weekend Musings

Took a shower in the evening and had (gained?) some thoughts while showering. I might have some post ideas for September! For now, they're still digesting - erm... marinating? - in my head. Whatever. If I'm really doing this, I'll need to do some preparation.

Will try to finish "The Man Who Fell to Earth" by tomorrow. It has been a slow reading experience... I don't know why my reading pace is weird for this one. The story is interesting but there are some parts where my reading gets slowed down (especially when it's describing stuff... which I'm bad with). Hmm. I just probably don't care enough about the details...
