A ShenLi Day

Obligatory(?) first post of the month~

Not much to update since the last post lol..

Oh yeah, it rained the next day after the post was published so I guess my post got an answer haha... It's still hot and humid though so there's no changes on that.

Reading (physically) is still slow... I'm barely making it to five pages daily.

Kind of had a marathon-watching session of "ShenLi" today~ They are both falling hard for each other :P... Now I'm in a new arc so this will be a lot more fun!!! Considering how I've already read the fan-translated novel, it's pretty amazing that I really don't remember much except for some major events haha (at least I know it's a happy ending). Also, I know it's not one, but I love thinking of this like an AU fanfic for "Princess Agents" with a bit changes to their characters' personality...

Rain, rain, come this way...

I'm here to complain about the weather~~~

We had a few rainy days every week this month but the other non-rainy days were just humid hot... the humidness makes it so much worse gahhhh I hate it!

So... I ended up going to the Matta fair at SICC last Friday with my family. Main reason of going: I wanted to be in a air-conditioned room (it was good cooled air btw! lol) hahahah seriously though. The weather is hot enough for me to complain at least once daily *sigh*

After that, we stopped by at Suria Sabah for lunch. Also tried llaollao frozen yoghurt for the first time there with Biscoff crumbs, pistachio sauce and Biscoff sauce as the toppings. Really loving that Biscoff sauce though, that's like one of my favourite textures for eating lol

I've been watching some of this season's anime but the watching slump is still so bad... Wouldn't surprise me if I abandon some of them (to watch for later)
Started watching "The Legend of ShenLi" (it will forever bother me that the official title isn't "Shen Li" or "Shenli" lol) and fell in love with the opening instrumental theme (another link, just in case). It's soooo good!

Reading

Finished reading "Queen of the Tiles". It was just okay, I guess. I don't particularly find the characters likeable. Including the dead character (not spoiler btw) the title of the book refers to.
Started reading "Chess"... I'm reading it very slowly so I'm pretty much still in the beginning...

It's out (!!!)

I was worried before that I might have a harder time finding a place to watch it but I guess it's fine now~~~

...do I even remember the fan-translated novel (that I read feverishly last year) at all? Honestly, I remember some major events but the other details are pretty much blurry to me now lol. Who cares though if I remember or not, I just want to see my "Princess Agents" couple back on screen~

Anyway, we had a sudden blackout last night and apparently it didn't affect the whole neighbourhood. Our front neighbours were 'blessed' with light :\ It was more than 3 hours of being in dark. My legs were itchy because I got bitten by mosquitos. Had to take another shower after the power came back because I sweated like crazy *sigh*

Reading Schedule Generator! There was a period that I didn't use it... then when I got lazy about printing it, I just wrote the schedule down somewhere XD. I think the last time I was using it was to help with avoiding reading slumps (lol) until I started using the ReadMore app again. The app has its own reading schedule feature so I guess that means I still use one? XD

I don't use it for every book I read but currently I do use one for "Leviathan Wakes"....

Anime

--- Still kind of in a watching slump, but I'm trying to watch a few of them (the ones I've read before)... it's a slow progress *sigh*

Games

--- I've been watching some of John Wolfe's playthrough on his JohnTwolfe channel... I enjoyed watching his Dredge playthroughs! I think that kind of got me back to wanting to read some H. P. Lovecraft stories (Thanks, John! Although I haven't started reading it... XD). He just started playing Stray so I'm excited to follow that one next! He's also playing Lethal Company with his friends & it was fun chaos :P

--- I am still interested in doing a Mass Effect Weekend thing but I need to think more about how I'm doing it.

"What's the point of cleaning if it just gets messy again?"

--- Yep.

--- Currently I'm obsessed with this one track from Strawberry Night movie OST

--- I'm noticing a weird thing in this blog's stats page (I think I'm getting some of those spam clicks?). If it gets out of hand I might make this blog private for a while.

Reading

--- Reading is... sufficient(?) at this moment. I'm reading just enough. "Leviathan Wakes" is surprisingly a comfortable read so far (considering the stuff happening in the story), I'm enjoying it so far! I'm also reading "Death Notice" and I like the mystery~

--- Recently, I've been reading "For My Derelict Favorite" (Thus, post title = Female lead's name). It started from the manhwa and now to the fan-translated web novel. I seriously need to know how it ends! The antagonist is a good [quality] villain. She's not exactly the cockroach kind (I thought of using praying mantis b*tch, since she's a saintess but maybe not... since FL called her queen bee... so... Queen Bee B*tch??) I love how FL uses QBB own beliefs against the Queen B*tch herself (wait, am I missing a word? :P). I can't wait to read more!!!

Current obsession that I'm invested in is... manga. Which is nothing new really lol. I guess to be more specific, the Korean equivalent of manga... which is manhwa. ~~(This is the answer to yesterday's question :P yeah I'm going to drop that casually...)~~

Oooh "Legend of Fei" huh... haven't been watching and Cdramas recently... Oh I am trying to catch up with the second season of "Avenue 5" though... Still love the comedy style! My kind of comedy really, I'm glad to see them again~

Never say never

..Wow. I found another post with a photobucket image that I missed! *fixed*

*sigh* Been watching doramas/movies with survival/appreciate-your-life themes. I just suddenly felt like watching them. Hehe. I cried a lot watching "1 Litre of Tears".

Oof I don't think I can rewatch that dorama now... My eyes might suffer. (And I don't want to read sad stuff...)

Oh... but I'm interested in reading the book so I might check if Kino has it in stock.

Yeah, that is me doing the opposite of what I said again. The same person who doesn't like historical fiction but keep finding herself reading in the same genre. There's always that "What if I enjoy it" or "What if I like it" feeling that lingers when one makes such declaration(?). I guess that's why people say "Never say never".

Lately been thinking that being brave is more important than having confidence. I've always thought that confidence is just a façade. It doesn't help at all having confidence [alone] after you failed... to do something. Courage is better.

Honestly... I might have a vague idea why I wrote this... but I don't really remember what triggered it. *sigh*

It still sounds true to me today although I don't know why I'm itching to say something against it :P

Since the post title is 'I See "Red"'... hmmm I don't think I've gotten angry at something recently. Maybe only when I read fictional stories... I don't really remember real-life ones. I'm not counting the times when I got irritated though.

Today I had this random thought:
I want a large-sized set of playing cards.

Lol this thing... hmmm ridiculous thing I want to purchase but didn't on Shopee, huh.. recently, that would be an hourglass. Yup. Just thought of wanting it after seeing it in the background of a video on Youtube.

I don't really know how I manage to do it but... I've chosen which book to read today. I tried doing it by mood(?) although I don't think I'm in a certain mood or something... which was why it's a bit hard to choose. Having that "50 pages" daily goal will help to keep me in check, I guess. The amount is just right for someone who dread(?) reading physical books XD

Found a short web novel today. It had a rough beginning (toxic stepmother and bad stepsister) but I think I laughed most of it because the male lead (a duke this time, for a change) made a contract (that involved a spirit) wanting nothing to do with the wife he's marrying. If she tries to seduce him into bed (=breaks the contract), she'll be cursed. MC is fine with that. The duke isn't. The contract thing was not done according to his wishes (it was his aides' doings, they thought MC is bad), and MC happens to be his long-lost childhood love... so you see... he'll want to break that contract XD -- yeah I was laughing my meanest laugh, waiting for him to realise that muahaha... Fortunately, he's not the one who came up with the contract idea because the contract sounds so terrible... Even if MC was okay with it and even praised how "good" it was/it didn't have any loopholes.

I'm not sure if it's related to yesterday's post but I had a good sleep last night... [despite having a case of heartburn, morning-me realised after she woke up]. I woke up naturally around 6.40am. The same thing might not happen tomorrow but I'm still grateful for today's. Been having symptoms of eye strain recently (dry eyes, blurry vision) so I was hoping that the sleep helped lessen the effects...

I don't think I've mentioned it here before but... hmmm.. I never really finish watching "Scarlet Heart" on TV. The "schedule" (it was aired 6pm, weekdays) was just too much for me :P. I do remember this one scene that made a deep impression on me: I think they were talking about promising to be honest to each other (no more lies or something) and if there's something they can't tell, they'll just say directly that they can't say it.... Oh wow, it's so long ago, I don't remember the exact phrase anymore.

It took some time but I managed to finish watching "The Legendary Life of Queen Lau"... Fun and wholesome. I got it right about her father. Still love the grey character but apparently the actor is very unlike the character in real life so that kind of made it a bit awkward to watch him... [Reminded me of when I read this book in 2021 and found this article while in the middle of the book. I consider myself a person who can separate the art from the artist but it's hard to continue reading/watching if I happen to know about it while in the middle of the book etc]

Unsurprisingly, the "Your Top Songs 2020" playlist had returned several times after that... In the end I tried listening it again (just the first song and then jump to the last song), and then proceed to clear cache from all devices (including browser). That has helped so far. The playlist haven't re-appeared yet so far.

Speaking of doing laundry around midnight... recently I was desperate to do them as quick as possible (because there's a water rationing notice - it's for another area - but we try to be extra cautious with these things), so I hung up the second batch of washed laundry like less than 15 minutes to 3am. Got a bit creeped out when I suddenly smelled something like vomit outside (it could be anything! maybe not supernatural) and got reminded of my sister telling me if there's a sudden smell, there's "something" present nearby. I think if it's fragrant it's far... it's near when the smell is the bad. Well, I could've remembered it wrongly, it might have been the opposite... but imagine suddenly thinking of that at that time lol... I don't want to do that ever again

I'm definitely still ~~obsessed~~ interested in Idol subgenre media lol... Especially after rewatching UtaPri recently. Voltage Inc has released the English version of "PLUST" in the Love365 app (as "PLUST Loving U So True"). Haven't played that one yet because I'm in the middle of Claude in the Japanese version. I might... play his route in the English version one later since his route got released few days ago... I don't want to be invested but I really loved the part where MC is not a fan of them XD (the group she's fan of is also cool so I'm hoping they'll have their own routes later...?)

Haven't been playing "Filament" recently. Lack of sleep has prevented me from playing this mind-taxing game :P... but I guess I'll try to return to it for the sake of completing it.

Winter Recap 2023

This suddenly appeared in my Youtube mobile app. I'm guessing it's because I [sometimes] listen to Youtube Music...?

Unfortunately mine only has three songs lol.. The other two (I don't know what) got deleted.

These songs are basically songs not available on Spotify.

That Switchfoot song is geoblocked. SixTONES' too (can't even open the artist page). I really loved that anime theme song too, it's a pity that I can only listen to it on Youtube.

The Fall Guys background music - this particular theme song for Puzzle Path - is not available officially. It's so catchy, I can keep listening to it XD

Border OST is apparently my top winter album lol.. Similar to the others, I can only listen to this on Youtube [Music]. It's not on Spotify :( There's this one track that I really like from the dorama and wanted to add to my themed Spotify playlists...

I'm currently in the middle of "The Predator". I think I watched this before too...? but I don't really remember the ending.

I quite like "Alien: Covenant". Liked the characters better than "Prometheus". Crazy story. Wow. Very CRAZY. Loved every moment of it! I think this is the closest they are at doing proper quarantining (though it didn't help much)... that's the one thing I'm always bothered by watching from "Alien". Suddenly, when a close someone is involved, quarantine procedures be damned :/ It's like you're so special you don't need to be quarantined. Totally saw that plot twist at end from miles away lol (it's more interesting that way). Sometimes, I almost want to complain why everyone is acting stupid (at times) and had to remind myself that, it's because they f*cked up that "Alien" happened... We're doomed to seeing them being unsuccessful from the start.

Finished "Soul Cage" early today though. I kind of vaguely remember the episode based on this book so when I checked, yes, Ishiguro Ken was in it! It's also the final case (the last three episodes) in the dorama. Ah, but that tragic yet bittersweet ending (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠)...

Very amused by the mention of Kame in the book (original book is published in 2007, translated book published in 2017) because he portrayed Kikuta in the 2019 version ("Strawberry Night Saga").

Finally finished reading "The Silent Dead" last night. It made me appreciate the dorama more for some reason. It was actually a good adaptation. Had the same vibes with the book. Borrowed the other book online (fortunately, no one is borrowing the book so I don't have to wait!) since my copy has yet to arrive *sigh*.

Had some kind of existential crisis moment after waking up (actually don't really remember when, maybe before I fall asleep...?). I'm still trying to make sense of it.

It's Interesting

Sometimes, things just happen. You look for info on a certain TV series adaptation and find out that the book it's based on has been fan-translated online.

It is a rabbit hole I chose to fall in today (or yesterday, if you want to be very specific about it :P). Fortunately it's not a deep one... I think I'll finish it today (or tomorrow), so I won't be in this hole very long. Soon, I'll walk away as a person who read the book before they watch the TV series. Actually, I don't really care about the order... it would be fun either way, as long as the story is good.

But... I have to say this feels more like when I binge-read fanfictions (both bad and good *sigh*). Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... I don't know.. maybe it's just the weirdly-structured sentences and typos that reminded me of my fanfiction-reading days...

Sorry, not sorry

"Thanks, I hate it." -me today after finishing "His Dark Materials"

Amazingly, I finished watching the third season of "His Dark Materials" today. Lyra is extra annoying in this season. I was rolling my eyes so hard in the last episode. Could've ended it in the previous episode where I was still crying at the end but no... it has to show what happened to the main character and the other main character (fortunately I get to see more of his daemon). The last episode was so cringe-worthy, it almost feel like a joke.

Borrowed this online. I just decided to start reading it one day last month and find it interesting. I've watched the jdorama (but not the movie with Osawa Takao) that was based on this series before, so I kind of know what I'm in for.

I'm still in the middle of reading it so I'm switching from e-book to this physical version starting today. So far, there are only two (I think) that got translated to English. It was not easy looking for the books. Both are not available on Book Depository. I think this was the last one at Kinokuniya...

Late Late

So... the theme for this post will be "late".

Few days ago, I suddenly had the urge to listen to Kurosagi's movie soundtrack. Tried looking for it on Spotify and I found one. The soundtrack for the dorama. This year's dorama.

That's how I knew there's a new version of Kurosagi [live action] this year.

Also, haven't done anything related to my "new" jar. No updates done whatsoever.

It's funny how having the piano tuner over few days ago had actually made me clean the area around the piano much faster than planned(?). It was really the case of "You can do it if you really try" or something similar :P.

Unfortunately, I feel exhausted just by thinking about it and now I don't want to deal with the pile of things I have in my room anymore...

Oh yeah. "The Sirens of Titan" is the 100th book I finished reading this year. It happened on Dec 7th. That means I've completed my Goodreads reading challenge this year~!

I don't really need to update that here lol but it fits the "late" theme so I'll just include it in this post.

I finally get to borrow a book again from the library yesterday! This is the first time I placed a hold and waited for the book to be available. It took me a few weeks. Apparently the hold "elapsed" early this month. So I guess that meant I forgot to borrow it in time...? I continued reading the book today but I kind of forgot who is who anymore XD *oh well*

On a random note, found out that Xie Yun is an ENTP (or ENFP?) yesterday... which doesn't really mean anything other than me having another favourite ENTP character (Ryan Reynolds' is also one lol)

Ahhh.. Finally finished watching "Legend of Fei"~~~ Now I'm freed from this drama! I kind of love that one of the themes is "Knowledge should be shared". That usually would be followed by "...except bad ones" but I guess they only get/focus on the good ones there *oh well*.. Ah. But that skill Ah Fei learnt at Great Apothecary Valley .. hmm.. they never really get back to that. (Whatever happen to one of the character's little brother??? I thought he died but it seems he's safe somehow and never mentioned again lol). Loved seeing Xie Yun and Zhou Fei but the other things... not really? The villains were super annoying that when they die it feels like when you see a cockroach perish. So annoying. Shen Tianshu could've been a better villain but he turned out to be quite basic after he lost his allies.

*long sigh*

Also finished with "The Early Stories of Truman Capote". I don't really have much to say about this one though. Just... I also want to do my best to write my own stories XD

Anyway... five titles left in the jar.

*shake shake*

I got "The Sirens of Titan" by Kurt Vonnegut.

...oooh now I'm worried. Didn't really like "Hocus Pocus".. I'll be more worried if it's written the same way with "Hocus Pocus".

Been sleeping weird since that day.

Ahhh really can't be sleeping like that anymore. I can't, I can't, I can't!

Also very distracted by "Legend of Fei". Currently at Episode 40 lol. Sorry... did do some FFing so I probably lost track of some side stories. I just can't deal with the villains sometimes - too much monologuing and doing bad stuff XD... I got too invested in Ah Fei's relationship with Xie Yun. I rather see them flirt with each other haha

Because of that, I haven't been going through my Watch Later playlist on Youtube... now it has a bit over 40 videos in it... #oops
