Let me feel the angst(?) through the light novels this time!

Because I want to read more manga
#9-11

Wanted to read in the past but never had the opportunity
#4
Read somewhere that I should read this after "Jane Eyre"... I haven't reread "Jane Eyre" yet but I would read this before I do that, since it's short!

I want to read as soon as possible!
#1, #5(!), #6-11
It's so random that I want to read "Don Quixote" while still having a physical book reading slump. The book is almost 1000 pages lol (Am I crazy???)

I can't read minds

Saturday 9 post~!

Link to questions → Saturday 9: Mercy (2013)

1) In this song, Shawn Mendes pleads with the girl he loves to be careful with his heart. Clearly he feels she's more important to him than he is to her. Do you believe that, in every relationship, someone always loves more?
I believe it, yes. This coming from my experience with non-romantic relationships :P... I do think that it would be the same for romantic ones too. Dare I say that it shouldn't be a problem as long as you communicate your thoughts and feelings with each other? Of course, there are other factors to be considered too but mainly (to me), communication is important.

2) He says that he'd willingly drive through the night just to be near her. Do you enjoy your time behind the wheel? Or do you consider driving necessary but not necessarily pleasurable?
I enjoy driving. I love listening to music while I drive. Although for now, I might need some time to get back to driving since I didn't drive much during the peak of the pandemic. Kind of afraid to return to the roads after so long...

3) He acknowledges that she has good intentions, but she hurt him anyway. Can you think of a time when you unintentionally hurt someone's feelings?
There might be some moments that I don't know about... but for ones that I do know, it happened in Secondary School. I think it was because I made a nonchalant (to me it was that way) comment and it hurt one of my friends' feeling. I don't remember how I know and how it was dealt though. I was still friends with her after that too so I want to believe it didn't ruin our friendship (at that time).

Unfortunately, I do have a tendency of making nonchalant, throwaway remarks at times... especially when I'm trying to hide my real thoughts and feelings. I also experienced making such remarks not aimed to anyone, and someone who I'm indifferent to was offended by it because he thought it was about him. I'm offended that he would think I'll give any thoughts about him at all! *calms self*... anyway, I try not to make nonchalant remarks that often anymore unless I meant for them to be heard. Honestly though, it's hard to know what will trigger someone so I rather have them speak out if they're uncomfortable with what I said so that I can adjust appropriately. I can't read minds, you know?

4) Shawn Mendes was a serious skateboarder during his high school years. Crazy Sam admits she's never even been on a skateboard. How about you? Are you more like Shawn or Sam, or are you somewhere in between?
I'm with Sam on this one. Never been on a skateboard. No plans to get on one in the future :P

5) While in his teens, he taught himself to play guitar while watching YouTube videos. Do you spend a lot of time on YouTube? If yes, what type of videos do you watch most often?
Oooh I spend a lot of time on Youtube, oh yes. I usually watch people play games (preferably horror games), anime (legally, since the channels obtained the official rights for Southeast Asia region), and reading/book youtubers.

6) When he's traveling or busy working, Shawn eats cold cereal for every meal -- breakfast, lunch and dinner. He says it's fast, tasty, and better than the fast food he'd grab otherwise. Will you be getting any meals "to go" this weekend?
Most probably will.

7) In 2016, the year this song was popular, Game of Thrones was TV's hottest show. Were you a fan?
I'm... not. I might watch it in the far future if I'm in the mood.

8) Also in 2016, a German shorthaired pointer won Best in Show at the Westminster Dog Show. Tell us about a dog who holds a special place in your heart.
The dog from the children's book "Where's Spot?" by Eric Hill. Although mine was a Malay translation one so it was called "Mana Si Bulat?" instead (Bulat literally means circle lol). I think. Childhood memories, not really reliable. I remember this particular book being read to me and me rereading several times after that. I think this was one of the few books that spark my interest in reading when I was still a child.

9) Random question: What's the subject line of the top email in your spam folder?
I think my spam folder just got cleared/auto-deleted so it's just "Hooray, no spam here!" now haha...

8.19am
Good morning~ It is me who is lacking sleep again. Oh, it's fine, I'm fine. I spent the time I'm supposed to be sleeping reading. Probably going to finish "The Silent Dead" today (yay). Pretty sure I'd seen the TV special adaptation (if I remember correctly) before, judging from the death, and I don't remember much about the case. Yay for not having the best memory in the world.... I can read and/or watch stuff like it's the first time!

No, no.. I don't feel sleepy yet...

Thursday...13?

*screams* <( 13 Thoughts This Week~ )

1 // The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
I think this is my favourite anime for this season. It's so cosy and chill XD

2 // Bofuri Season 2
I'm still watching this anime but... I find it tiring recently. I pretty much put it on 2x speed on Youtube. Surprisingly, it's not as bad as "Talentless Nana" & "So I'm a Spider, So What?"... I just don't think the theme is interesting anymore, it's pretty much predictable at this point.

3 // Hogwarts Legacy
Amazingly, since I don't follow the book series/fandom related to it, I find this game interesting...? Currently, I'm watching two playthroughs on Youtube... the gameplay looks fun so far.

4 // Monitor Stand
Last week, I finally use the monitor stand for the not-so-new-anymore monitor (got one under RM20 on Shopee lol). I think this will help lessen the neck pain thing I've been experiencing few weeks ago. I haven't tried playing Mass Effect multiplayer since then though... XD

5 // Mass Effect Weekend
Speaking of the game, I've been thinking... maybe I should make a weekly blog post of my Mass Effect playthrough? Just thought it might help with getting me continue my ME2 insanity playthrough...

6 // Organised Drawers
Did some organising for drawers in the kitchen today. It's actually nice to see organised. Maybe I do like that kind of thing. I just don't do it often because I don't like seeing they get disorganised again later. What's the point?

7 // "What's the point of cleaning if it just gets messy again?"
I kind of have this phrase stuck in my head whenever I'm unmotivated to clean up stuff but... it is, sometimes, important. If everything is in order, I don't lose things... and my things don't fall and break on the floor.

8 // Reading
It has been slow reading for me again lately. Sometimes it's not because I'm unmotivated... it's hard to read when you feel itchy or have blurry visions.

9 // Brave New World
I've been recalling this one song performed on "Call Me by Fire" (S2) recently... fortunately I remembered vaguely which song it was. Almost thought I would go to sleep with no answers XD

10 // Tumblr followers
I've been getting "new" followers on Tumblr recently... pretty sure most, if not all, of them are spam accounts. Don't really get why it's happening now. I mean, I kind of get it, but still don't get it at the same time.

11 // Distracted
Nothing new here but I feel like I get/got distracted more these past few days. It was pretty bad when I was window-shopping on Shopee :P

12 // Dead Space Remake
It's funny how I can't watch any playthroughs for this because... I'm actually in the middle of playing the original version. Me, playing a horror game??? XD

It's like the ultimate test for me who has gotten used to horror stuff :P

Anyway, progress has been slow so I guess I won't be watching any playthroughs for at least a decade haha

13 // Early
I wonder if I can wake up very early again after so many days not doing so XD

Let's see how I do tomorrow~

Scarlet Heart

Posted in: 2022 posts | blog images | Blog Meme | Dorama | Interest: TV | Online Shopping Bag | Reading | Spotify | Youtube

It's Thursday... and I'll attempt to do Thursday 13 today~

13 Thoughts This Week:

1
Eileen Chang's "Half a Lifelong Romance"

Just received this today. This novel has already been adapted thrice into a movie and two TV series. The one I'm familiar with is Ruby Lin's version (I've known it as "Ban Sheng Yuan" [半生緣] but apparently her version is also called "Affair of Half a Lifetime") which... I never watched before... LOL. It's weird that I want to read this because I haven't watch it, right? I had this phase before: Any movies or TV shows/series that I'm interested in that is based on books, I want to read them! Doesn't matter if it's before and after - I don't really care about that now as long as I have access to whichever first.

Not reading it yet. I'm going to have to finish some of the books I'm currently reading now first. That's what I decided to do.

2
"Old" and expectations

Last night, I watched this movie with my sister (chose it on random). I thought it was very interesting. Then I saw some comments on reddit that said it's one of M. Night Shyamalan's worst movie... which I don't really get why...? Yes, I understand that different people will have different preferences... but I honestly think people just put too much expectations on things they watch/read. It's better to go in without any nice expectations... or maybe no/low expectations. Maybe you'll enjoy stuff better that way.

3
"The Tenants Downstairs"

Saw this movie on TV few days ago. I was ready to accept the main character is another mean and sadistic person... then it reached the ending. Didn't like the character but loved the ending.

4
"Scarlet Heart"

I'm finally watching this Chinese drama! It's in the same time slot with "Palace" on 8TV. Loving it so far. Also noticed some similarities with "Palace" (or rather, it should be the other way round?). Feels a bit weird seeing an opposite situation to "Palace". I'm growing to like Fourth Prince. Got excited whenever Fourteenth Prince appears (LIN GENGXIN!). I've read most of the spoilers online (although I don't trust my memory.. so it's okay lol), I think I'm ready for anything tragic!

5
"The Legendary Life of Queen Lau"

Another Chinese drama I'm currently binge-watching on watching! Kind of have a silly, crazy plot (but still plausible, to some extent)... it's quite like watching one of those TVB period dramas with crazy storylines (Can't help thinking it's like a homage to that since there's "Queen Lau" in the official title...)

6
"The Bathhouse"

Saw three playthroughs on Youtube so far. The first I saw was PockySweet's, then Gab's. Latest was John's... enjoyed all of them but I laughed too much with John's commentaries lol

7
Trying this again today. Coffee at night.

8
Reading updates: Slow reading week.

9
Sometimes mood is like this song... LOL

10
Sharing is not always caring

Because I always got my stuff taken by someone else when I was little, I'm not a fan of sharing things. Yes, I can share when needed and within logic but most of the time that's the first thing I'll consider whenever I have to deal with people. If I love it very much, I don't want to share.

↑↑ Just something I've been thinking about recently

11
Peak app

Been playing this more often lately. Used to play a different brain game but I can't find that app anymore (probably no longer updated) so now I'm stuck with this. Loved the challenges. This app made me realised that I remember stuff more than I think (or maybe that's just the app doing its work lol).

12
Lights off

Didn't last long lol. Keeping it on makes my room warmer when I wake up in the morning so I stop after two nights. Thief dreams be damned!

13
Uniquely yours

Random thing I noticed on Spotify. I don't know why my Spotify-generated Your Top Songs 2020 playlist is stuck here:

(Now I'm listening to the whole playlist. Maybe it will go away after that?)

I made it to 13, yay! Took me four hours to get them all. Some of these are unexpectedly long XD

Extra Post!

Posted in: # Love of the Aegean Sea | 1st post | 2022 posts | blog images | Blog Meme | Dorama | My Fangirl Side | 蘇有朋

The questions sound fun so I decided to do Saturday 9 today~

Link to questions → Saturday 9: Forever Your Girl (1989)

1) In this song, Paula Abdul tells her boyfriend he's got to remember, she's forever his girl. How's your memory? Do you remember things easily or do you leave yourself notes and reminders?
I don't consider myself having a good memory (I hate memorising stuff) but sometimes I do remember things I don't even realise I remember... So I guess it's like selective memory kind of thing? I do make notes and reminders but most of the time they are useless because I keep losing them haha (but there's also that thing where you remember easily if you write them down... so it doesn't matter if I lose them, I guess?)

2) Paula reassures her lover that she can't be swayed by another man, even if he gave her diamonds or pearls. Tell us about a piece of jewelry that means something to you.
I'm going to go with "Plato's Eternity" for this. It's a bracelet from Folli Follie. It was featured in "Love of the Aegean Sea" and I was/am crazy about it. I even want it to be part of my wedding, if I ever get the chance to have one lol.

Here's a photo of it from someone who got it for their birthday (SO JEALOUS!)
20th bdae present fr mom

I usually don't really care about jewellery, so this might be the only jewellery I ever want in my life... and it was all because I was a fan of Alec Su.

3) Paula is best known as one of the original judges of American Idol. Without looking it up, can you recall the men who sat on either side of her?
I remember their faces but I don't remember their names other than Simon :/

4) Paula has been dancing since age 8 and moves very well in heels. Tell us about your favorite shoes.
I don't really have a favourite...? As long as it doesn't give me pain (other than blisters), durable and long-lasting then I'm good.. which automatically excludes all [very] high heels XD

5) A lifelong dancer, Paula admits she's not a trained singer. For this record, she worked with producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, who won accolades for his work with singers including Madonna, Kelly Clarkson, Toni Braxton and Janet Jackson. Who is your all-time favorite female singer?
Again, I'm beginning with this: I don't really have one... but if I really have to choose it will be Onitsuka Chihiro... Haven't really been listening to her recent songs but I love her songs from early 2000s.

6) She advises young girls to "keep the faith and don't lose your gut instinct." How about you? Are you more logical or instinctive?
I'm more of a logical person but I try to listen to my instincts from time to time.

7) Paula is excited that Richard Branson has chosen her song, "Straight Up" as the theme for his Virgin Galactic Spaceflight company. Would you like to orbit above the earth?
Me, who loves space opera movies/tv shows/games: YES.

8) In 1989, when this song was a hit, the Sears Holiday Wish Book was big on  bathrobes. Men and women alike were tempted with brightly colored, belted robes with hoods and patch pockets. Tell us about your bathrobe.
I don't have a bathrobe... but I do have a blue sleeping robe that's surprisingly warm even though the fabric is thin.

9) Random question: What do you consider your best quality?
I'm a fast learner. Of course, not for everything. Most of the time I can learn what I need to know by observing and asking questions. For some stuff, I will try to recognise a pattern so that I can try to find an efficient way to do them... just so that I can laze around or do something else later XD

13 Thoughts This Week

Posted in: # Mass Effect | 2021 posts | Art Stuff | Blog Meme | Books | Forty Winks and More | Learning French Language | Online Shopping | The Weather Looks...

Thursday 13 post!
  1. I'm waiting for J&T to deliver some 10.10 parcels.

  2. I'm window-shopping for books on Shopee. I'm thinking of translated books by Japanese authors.

  3. I just realised that now Book Depository asked for phone numbers in the delivery address section. I don't remember having that in the past.

  4. I need to clean and organise my room (again).

  5. I want to compile all my stationery and art supplies in one place and organise systematically because my system now has failed me *sigh*

  6. I've somewhat finished doing a list of books in my shelf (I mentioned in a post before about doing a static list). Still need to add my manga collection...

  7. Disabled the "Google Dictionary" extension. Chrome is being slow again so I'm trying to see if one of the extensions is responsible. But the dictionary recently sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't so I'm not missing having it.

  8. I feel like learning French again. Thinking of taking out my old notes and books from the storage box (or bottom shelf).

  9. Today's weather report: It's hot! I can feel the burn on my back when I was hanging up the laundry.

  10. Been playing "Viscera Cleanup Detail" recently and got reminded why I hate cleaning sometimes (sooo many things to do...). I should get back to killing aliens in ME3.

  11. I want to watch more horror movies.

  12. I've been taking Calcium supplement daily recently and I realised it helps me to fall asleep. Supposedly it helps with the sleep cycle (which I do have problems with). It's like the drinking milk thing to induce sleep. It works for me (I don't know if it's placebo effect or what). At night, I actually yawn (which doesn't happen always) and yearn for sleep. And I'm able to sleep more than 5 hours.

  13. Thinking of doing art stuff again but don't know where to start. I probably should do #5 first so that I know where to find my things.

久々の Saturday 9

Posted in: 2021 posts | Blog Meme

Doing a Saturday 9 post today!

Link to questions → Saturday 9: Smelly Cat

1) Poor Smelly Cat lives with negligent humans who refuse to take it to the vet. Who is the last doctor you spoke to (vet, MD, dentist, PhD ...)?
Last time was when I go to a nearby private hospital to get flu vaccine. It was before Covid-19 became a pandemic but everyone was already being cautious. There was a shortage of flu vaccine at that time (not sure if it was coincidental or what). I was paranoid cautious because of H1N1 news end of 2019. It was early 2020.

2) This song was introduced during the second season of Friends. Were you a fan of the show?
I consider myself a fan. Grew up watching it. But never finished watching all the seasons.

3) On the show, the song was performed by Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), an amateur folk singer and a professional masseuse. There  was a debate on Reddit about massages -- some loved them because they are relaxing and therapeutic, others think it's "creepy to be undressed and handled by a stranger." How about you? Do you enjoy massages?
Yes, I do enjoy them. Suffered from backache more since I started working in 2017 (a lot of sitting and dealing with difficult people). Still have them occasionally after I quit :( Might need to see a chiropractor Ah.. but I understand why it feels creepy. I don't feel comfortable with a male giving back massage so...

4) During the run of Friends, Phoebe was roommates first with Monica and then with Rachel and finally with her true love, Mike. Tell us about one of your roommates.
Huh. When I was younger, I shared a room with an aunt. Then, there's that temporary roommate during university orientation. Don't have much to say about really. [Is it obvious that I'm not a fan?]

5) Phoebe often performed for tips on street corners or at her favorite coffee shop, Central Perk. Where is your favorite place to go for a cup of joe?
Haven't gone out much since last year so I guess... home?

6) This song was originally called "Smelly Dog," inspired by a pooch named Gouda. The childhood pet of Friends writer Betsy Borns, poor Gouda could have smelled better. Is there an odor you'd prefer to never smell again?
Okay. Two things came to mind. Both related to biology class. Formalin. And that ammonium compound (I don't remember the full name) we used in an experiment once that smells like really, really strong(?) or concentrated urine. This might extend to any fermented food that has similar scent.

7) 35% of American households include a cat. Are there any pets at your house?
Yes. Cats :D

8) In 1995, the year Phoebe first performed "Smelly Cat," Steve Fossett became the first person to make a solo flight across the Pacific in a hot air balloon. Have you ever ridden in a balloon?
No. Not sure if I want to in the future.

9) Random question: Looking over your romantic history, have you broken more hearts, or had your heart broken more often?
What romantic history haha Honestly, I don't have much experience in that department. If you count crushes that led to nowhere, I guess it's me who got my heart "broken" more...

Pandan Day

Posted in: 2021 posts | Blog Meme | Family | Food | On This Day | Online Shopping | Reading

I just realised that it's also Friday on May 7th, 2010.

It was the day I posted my answers to a blog meme ("Friday 5" / inactive).

The original site I took the questions from was here: link (but it's not there anymore).

Questions:
1. Who could be described as a nightmare in pink?
2. How long does it take you to type “The quick red fox jumps over the lazy dog” on your cell phone or computer keyboard?
3. What item in a plain brown wrapper did you most recently receive?
4. Who’s got the loveliest cinnamon skin?
5. When did you last take a walk in the lonely silver rain?
6. What is the real inspiration for this week’s questions?
Unfortunately, my answers for Q1, Q4 and Q6 will be the same as before. Can't think of anyone and I have no idea (well this is from more than a decade ago so...).

※ Text in grey  is my answer in May 2010 post

How long does it take you to type “The quick red fox jumps over the lazy dog” on your cell phone or computer keyboard?
12.5 seconds. Computer keyboard.
I used this site to check my time (custom text). In present day, it's 6 seconds. Yeah... I guess that's expected when you use computers [heavily] daily. Probably will take me longer if I use my phone.

What item in a plain brown wrapper did you most recently receive?
Erm... kuey tiaw takeaway?

If this is postal-related... that would be the YesAsia package I received two months ago which contained a YUI album and a "JONAS" DVD.
Today, I received the phone screen protectors (they were in two small brown boxes) I ordered via Shopee.

And wow that name again. If we're talking about albums... I guess my last one was from CD Japan (Arashi's latest album before hiatus,  "This Is Arashi"). Funny story. I totally forgot that EMS is a no go last year (I don't know about now, haven't checked yet) so it got returned to them lol. I knew beforehand but I still picked EMS as the shipping method (because I just woke up when I did the purchase thing). Had to pay a bit more yen to use DHL and... it was the first time I saw that tax thing from kastam. Of course mine was excluded (since it's less than RM500) but wow it felt so official and expensive-looking. It's kind of scary even though mine was RM0....

When did you last take a walk in the lonely silver rain?
Last week. Can't remember which day. But it was after another exam paper - I went out early. It was just starting to rain when I walked to a bus stand near the university's library.
Just happened hours ago.. although it's nothing as "romantic(?)" as before. I was hanging up the laundry and it started to rain very heavily. The laundry is safe but I'm not.

That's not really a walk though lol

★★★★★
Today is a generally nice day. My sister made pandan doughnuts in random shapes mostly doughnut holes XD. We were out of green food colouring so I mixed the yellow and blue we already have in hand. It's interesting how I got that idea from watching people on Youtube doing art stuff with food colouring. The resulting green looks nice really. Coincidentally, we also have pink so basically we can do other colours if we want.

Finished "The Time of the Ghost". Started "Catch-22". Just realised last night that this version has over 500 pages. *long sigh* It will be the longest book I read this year if I complete it this month.

I've been using a reading tracker app for some books I'm reading and from the data I have now... I read roughly 100 pages per hour (still depends on certain factors: the book, its size, text size etc). Now I can estimate how much time I need to finish a book. So it will be 5-6 hours for "Catch-22"...?

Haaaaaahh......

13 Books I Want To Read

Posted in: 2021 posts | Blog Meme | Books | Reading | Reading Challenge

*Edit 2021-05-25: 3 months later update

Thursday 13 post!

These are books I want to read in the next 3 months.

And to make it easier, if I couldn't finish in 3 months, I have until my birthday in September to finish them. ('∀')

To be honest, I'm a bit scared that doing this list will backfire in the end. What if I'm back to a reading slump? What if I don't feel like reading the book?

Oh well, since I already got all thirteen in a list, I'll just have to try and report back in 3 months... which will be on 25th of May..?

◆ Not necessarily in any particular order
◆ 1-7 Reread list, 8-13 New list
  1. Persuasion (Jane Austen)
  2. Hexwood (Diana Wynne Jones)
  3. The Last Lecture (Randy Pausch)
  4. The Time of the Ghost (Diana Wynne Jones)
  5. Fire & Hemlock (Diana Wynne Jones)
  6. Sphere (Michael Crichton)
  7. Catch-22 (Joseph Heller)
  8. Powers: Who Killed Retro Girl?
  9. Hyouka #1: Misteri 33 Tahun (Yonezawa Honobu/Malay translation)
  10. Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)
  11. Malice (Higashino Keigo)
  12. Six Four (Yokoyama Hideo)
  13. Animal Farm/1984 (George Orwell/2-in-1 book)
Most of the books in the reread list were books I read so long time ago (except "Persuasion"). Might be interesting to see how I feel about them now.

The ones in the new list... "Powers" is a random addition. I actually purchased Sphere for free on Carousell but the seller thought the shipping fee was too expensive. So I suggested adding another book he's giving away for free... I don't even know how I was so bold at suggesting that... but this looks interesting so I can't wait to read it! Frankenstein was the one I mentioned before in this blog.

Perform a Factory Reset

Posted in: 2021 posts | Blog Meme | Tumblr | Twitter

Thursday. Almost wanted to do a Thursday 13 post but... you know, it's not easy to list out 13 items. Believe me, just try it yourself. I might get to 10 but to complete a 13..? Not going to happen always. But I love that blog meme anyway and I try to do it whenever I can find 13 things to list (≧∀≦)

Oooh... I can do 13 old tweets kind of thing though? Like how can I show how self-absorbed I am if not that ( *´艸`)? I actually wanted to do something like a Twitter archive thing before but thought it's too troublesome. Doing this selection thing seems easier. Just like digging through my Tumblr posts.

Also have some ideas (in addition to the ones mentioned in this) what to blog in the future. Things like following tutorials by art Youtube channel? Although it will just be me blogging about the end result..? I mean you won't be seeing the process, I guess...

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Anyway, last night I uninstalled the Tumblr apps on my phones. I don't know why I get so irritated by the ads that came on my dashboard lately. Used to not care before but recently it has been showing some weird sh*t that I prefer not to mention here. When I click the "i" thing, there's a link to manage the setting... on Facebook. WHAT? I don't have a Facebook account.

I have my suspicions. One of the phone I have is a hand-me-down Oppo F9 (my father's). Unfortunately, I didn't do a factory reset when I received it because I was too excited (and I'm too lazy to backup the files). Even though I already uninstalled the Facebook app, I guess there's still that ad-related data cache existing deep inside the phone...? So instead of mobile games ads and stuff I just searched on Lazada or Shopee, I got those sh*tty ads.. because of my father's Facebook ad data thingy.. I think? Just an unproven idea because I have no way of knowing. Also, resetting my Advertising ID doesn't help.

I might do the factory reset later. Just wanted to include it in my blog as a reminder for my future self.

Edit after a couple hours later:
I was curious so I did some googling and found this. Borrowed and checked my father's phone (with permission!).. Look what I found.

The four visible apps are mobile apps I'M USING ("was" in Tumblr's case; The other three are Voltage otome games). WTF. Cleared the history and turned off the option for "Future Off-Facebook Activity". I believe this is best for my Boomer father.

Interestingly, the 3 game apps aren't installed in the hand-me-down phone. So it's acting like a virus. From the installed mobile Tumblr app... to the other apps I have installed in another phone. That's so bizarre! Probably have something to do with the ads I viewed in the games voluntarily but these are two different phones!

My 13 Hobbies

Posted in: # Mass Effect | 2021 posts | Art Stuff | Blog Meme | Gardening Stuff | Knit/Crochet Stuff | My Fangirl Side | Piano | Reading

It's not easy to list out 13 items so I don't always get to do a Thursday 13 post. But today, I have this idea... so I'm listing out 13 of my hobbies.

Always
Things I do every week these last few months

1. Reading - Something I do since I'm little. I have occasional reading slumps but I still like doing it.

2. Watching TV/Youtube/Netflix - Not much TV nowadays but Youtube, oh yes. It started from watching some japanese vlogs to watching people play horror games. Now I'm learning how to knit from Youtube videos.

3. Surfing the Internet - Being in fandoms got me into looking for their information online. I started using the internet pretty early (compared to my peers at that time).. and, yes, I experienced dial-up connection. Internet was pretty expensive back then [for the slow speed *sigh*] so I could only use it after my mother's done using it.

4. Collecting Things - I don't collect everything of course. But when there's something I'm interested in, I naturally want to collect them. I used to collect stamps and stickers. I still have the hotel envelopes I mentioned in a post before. Other things I collect are books and stationery... I try not to collect stuff I can't use.

5. Blogging - My blog has been online since February 2005. There were years I didn't update anything but yeah, I still consider it one of my hobbies.

6. Music-related Activities (Listening to Music/Playing the Piano)

7. Playing Computer/Mobile games - I LOVE GAMES. I wasn't allowed or didn't have much chance to play them when I was little so I think that played a big part on why I love them so much now. I play quite a wide range of games. I enjoy the Mass Effect series. I love mystery, puzzle-solving games. Adventure games. Visual novel games. Otome games. Music rhythm games.

Sometimes/on-and-off/Sporadic
Things I do monthly these last few months

8. Cooking

9. Writing - When I'm not lazy, I like attempting to write fanfics based on the games I play lol.

10. Learning a Language

11. Creating Art (Drawing/Painting) - This one is really an on-and-off thing for me. But I'm trying to do more of this because sometimes I do have that urge to do some art things.

Newish/Experimental stage(?)

12. Gardening

13. Knitting

13 Books I Purchased Recently

Posted in: 2020 posts | Blog Meme | Books | Diana Wynne Jones | Jane Austen | Michael Crichton | My Fangirl Side | Online Shopping | Shopping Bag

Another Thursday 13 post!
  1. The Wrong Number (R. L. Stine) - I want to try reading the Fear Street series again.
  2. Tuesdays with Morrie (Mitch Albom) - Curious.
  3. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (Helen Fielding) - Curious. Saw the movie.
  4. A Rainbow Feast: New Asian Short Stories. (edited by Mohammad A. Quayum) - Random pick.
  5. Frankenstein (Mary Shelley) - Curious.
  6. Eaters of the Dead (Michael Crichton)
  7. Timeline (Michael Crichton)
  8. Airframe (Michael Crichton)
  9. The Andromeda Strain (Michael Crichton)
  10. Travels (Michael Crichton)
  11. The Kalahari Typing School for Men (Alexander McCall Smith) - Bargain corner.
  12. Bungo Stray Dogs #16 [Gempak Starz] (Asagiri Kafka, Harukawa Sango)
  13. The Decagon House Murders (Ayatsuji Yukito) - Curious.
I'm a big Michael Crichton fan so that's the reason why there are so many. This month, I ended up buying many pre-loved books of his on Carousell. I seriously need to stay away from that site/app. I haven't received the first and last book via mail. Bungo and Hyouka are two main mangas I buy regularly because they are available locally in English. I've learnt enough from experience that if I want those manga, buy it as soon as possible because they will be out of stock in the future (had to turn to Carousell to get a used version of Hyouka #1).

Weird combination? I usually go by my current mood when I pick what to read. Generally, I like a good story but I'm also the same person who prefer Michael Crichton, Diana Wynne Jones & Jane Austen' writing styles... what does that mean? I also don't know. *sighs in confusion*

Hopefully I won't buy anymore books in the near future...

Saturday 9 [07-Dec-2019 ed.]

Posted in: # Mass Effect | 2019 posts | Blog Meme | Interest: Games | Interest: TV | Life: Anecdotes | NaBloPoMo

Haven't done this for like... whoa! The last one I did was in April 2012!

Saturday 9: The Champion [Link to Original Post]

1) This song is about doing what it takes to win. What's the most recent competition you won? (Yes, online solitaire counts.)
Hmm.. probably when I played solo in Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer in a bronze match. Was expecting other players to join me later but there wasn't anyone haha.. I managed to survive until the end alone.

2) The lyrics tell us to "go ahead and put your bets on me." Do you often play games of chance -- like the office football pool, or slot machines, or the lottery?
I play some mobile japanese games that use this gacha lottery system to get cards (with their own skills/powers) so I'm very familiar with the agony of not getting what I want. But I rarely spend real money on them so I kind of just go "Oh well" in the end if my luck was bad.

3) The video includes footage of young people competing in The Special Olympics. What's your favorite sport to watch? Is it the same sport you most enjoying playing?
I'm not really a sports fan so I don't have an answer for this...

4) This week's featured artist, Carrie Underwood, first came to America's attention when she won on American Idol. Prior to competing on that show, she'd never been on an airplane. How old were you when you took your first flight?
I was pretty small.. like toddler small...? (judging from old travel photos I've seen). I don't really remember the experience but weirdly, I remember getting sweets from a flight attendant when I was crying on the plane.

5) Carrie loves horror and her favorite author is Stephen King. What book are you currently reading?
Currently have a reading slump. It's an attempt but I'm doing multiple books at this moment (Jurrasic Park, a drawing book, a painting book, an art book and manga Bungo Stray Dogs).

6) Carrie's duet partner on "The Champion" is rapper Ludacris. In addition to making music, he acts and has appeared in one Sam's favorite shows, Law & Order: SVU. What's your favorite "cop show?"
This might be a bit tough because I love watching these kind of shows. "Monk" came to mind although the main character isn't really a cop anymore. And maybe "Grimm"... which has a unique theme (I love it!). There was also a series of Hong Kong serial drama which I watched when I was little called "Detective Investigation Files" that might have influenced my interest in mystery stuff.

7) Ludacris is a distant cousin of comedian Richard Pryor. Have you studied your family's genealogy?
I did. I tried but it's not easy since our family doesn't pass down the family [clan] name/surname.. (my surname is my father's first name). Someone in the other branch of the family did make efforts so I had the chance to go to a very big family reunion in Pekan Nabalu few years ago. If I recall correctly, we share the same great-grandfather on my mother's side of the family.

8) Soccer was a big deal in 2018, the year this song was released. According to Google, "FIFA World Cup" was the news story that generated the most internet searches. What's the last thing you "googled?"
Best Taiwan instant noodles 2019. Haha. I'm asking someone who's going there soon to buy this particular instant noodles.

9) Random question: You're battling the flu. The doctor advises you to stay in bed a full five days. As you begin feeling better (around Day 3), do you continue to follow doctor's orders? Or do you get up and start moving before you're supposed to?
I battled the flu and cold for almost a month in October. My flu got better then I fell sick again from a cold and had to take antibiotics twice (the first course wasn't effective I guess? or I got re-infected). That was also the first time I had a very, very nasty cough accompanied by a bad case of phlegm. I thought I was going to die. My throat and chest hurt so bad when I cough. It also interfered with my sleep/rest. So if the doctor says full five days, I'll do a seven or more days just to be sure.

Please wash your hands everyone, especially after shaking other people's hands!

Saturday  9: Ain't Too Proud to Beg

1. What was the last thing that you begged for?
I'll be honest : it's money. Selfish reasons. ...and I won't say what it was for here because it might jinx my chances of getting it :P

2. Have you ever lost a best friend after a fight?
Ah... I did... I think I did. Shame on me... can't really remember when & who though. But I re-connected with one of them when I started secondary school. (^_^)V

3. When was the last time you just wanted to be invisible?
Two semesters ago was the time I realised I'm not interested with what I'm studying now. That realization affected my studies quite a lot. I wasn't motivated in doing assignments, homework & midterm/final exam papers. So it wasn't really a surprise when I screwed up a group assignment for my Virtual Reality class. I really wanted to be invisible on the presentation day. I created my group's poster (on what we created) in a wrong way/format & the whole project wasn't done according to what the lecturer asked for (actually I didn't know it was supposed to be in such a way). I told my partner what I did wrong & somewhat we (or I?) ended up telling my lecturer the truth. We were asked to present anyway. I didn't realised that my partner went missing during preparation. Ah.. I think I had mix reactions at that moment. My partner didn't answer the phone when I called her. I almost wanted to cry when my other classmates gave their moral support. Was thinking something like "Is this situation this bad already?" I actually thought of running away too XD

Wow. I didn't think this answer will be long lol..

4. Which room of your home tends to be the messiest?
Ah... my room? It's hard not to notice because I spend most of my time in my room XD

5. You are to be locked in a room forever with a celebrity. You get to choose. Who do you pick?
Arashi! Better yet...Ohno Satoshi! Hope he didn't learn much about pick-locking for his dorama XD

6. Has someone ever left another person to be with you?
No.

7. What’s been kind of a drag for you lately?
Programming assignments.

8. How are you different from your (current or most recent) significant other?
Can't provide answer. Not applicable. XD

9. What is the most perverted thing someone has ever said to you?
I don't remember.

Blog meme from here.

Saturday 9: Home

1. Do you live close to where you grew up? Why?
Currently I'm totally living where I grew up (haha). Because 1- I'm a penniless & yet to graduate university student, 2 - I want to spend time with my family as much as I can before I move out & 3 - I need to have access to a piano because I take piano/music theory exams almost every year :P. *selfish reasons*

2. Have you ever been so angry that you almost lost control?
Yes. It gives me headaches and bad days.

3. Are you a fan of a musical act that slightly embarrasses you?
Errrr... Not really a fan.. but I kind of like this song since I saw him perform on Music Station years ago on Animax channel. IT WAS TOO CATCHY. XD I dare you to listen
edit 2022/01/21: "this song" = YT link removed. Watch it here instead. Listen on Spotify here.

4. Is there a movie that always makes you cry?
Nothing in particular but I know animal movies almost always will make me cry.

5. Who is the most famous person that you've met?
Never met one before... or maybe I just didn't care :P.

6. Before you leave your home, what must you have?
This depends on why I leave my home... basic things are wallet and mobile phone. Will include a book if the place I'm going will give me time to read.

7. What do you miss the most about being a kid?
Nothing really... I was more reserved as a kid & I don't really want to go back to that.

8. Tell us about a passion of yours that your readers would not expect.
Cooking, I guess... I always have the urge to try the food I saw on Arashi shows XD so I will look up for the recipe online.

9. At what age do you think you'd be to think, “I've had a great run”?
70? 80?

Interesting questions today :)
Blog meme from here.

Saturday 9 : How Long

1. Have your discovered a betrayal? If so, did you ask, “How long has THIS been going on”?
I think I did... But I didn't ask that question though. I kept to myself and find ways to get rid of them (either the feeling or person). I'm guessing that this is more of a relationship/dating related kind of betrayal.. if it's that, no, I don't have any experience yet :P

2. What is the longest line you've ever stood in? Would you do it again?
The longest line I ever stood in? My university registration day's line! GOSH. That was SO, SO, SO long. The registration event was held at my university's chancellery hall. It began at the lobby, then went through the walkway on the left part of the hall to upstairs, then went through the right part's walkway going back downstairs (lol)... If I remember correctly it took like 2-3 hours (or 4?) to reach the registration table. CRAZY DAY. Would I do it again? I guess so... I don't think the line for postgraduate registration would be THAT long.

3. Someone has hung a sign around your neck, and you have to wear it all day long. What does it say?
"Obsessed with Ohno Satoshi & Arashi." XD

4. As the Christmas season approaches, what song is it that you just can't wait to hear?
5. What Christmas song do you dread to hear?
Nothing.

6. How often do you read the last chapter of a book first?
I didn't count but I usually do this if I'm greatly immersed with the book & couldn't wait to reach the end.

7. Do you have a favorite movie that you just love to see each year during the holidays?
Nothing, really.

8. Do you enjoy winter in the area that you live?
No winter in Sabah... but if it's about coldness & rainy seasons, YES, I enjoy them :D (except for the fact that I can't do laundry as often as usual)..

9. At holiday I think we all show more kindness. In your opinion, is this a “concept” that has value (like money or other tangible things) or does it exist as simply emotion? Why?
Emotion... I think. There's something about holiday spirit that makes one be kind (or kinder) to others. Maybe they want to enable other people to enjoy their holidays just like them? Did I misunderstood the question again...? :P
