Let me complain about the weather

Posted in: # Wuthering Waves | 2025 posts | blog images | Books | Interest: Games | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag | The Weather Looks...

Another post of short updates~

The weather has been good recently - too good - and I'm hating it *siiigh*. The humidity is not too high (around 50%) so the hot weather is slightly bearable BUT the sun is still scorching hot... it's so bad. I feel sticky from sweating during the day. And then I sweat again after taking my shower like.. what's the point of showering anymore HAAAAH

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Received this book few days ago.. It's a preloved copy but damn... it's very much in good condition. I mean it's expected (didn't know until I've seen it myself) since the paper is the magazine paper type.

Jane Austen: The World of Her Novels

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Mini WuWa Talk
I lost my 50/50 *sad lol*... I did think of wanting another copy of Calcharo (which I just realised is now S2) recently but I didn't expect I would get it this early!? *sigh*

I could wait for a guaranteed Cartethyia, I guess...? I dunno... I worry about getting into a similar situation with Yinlin's - which resulted in another loss in the next patch (Carlotta) - I most probably be better off with skipping Ciaccona this time around...

Edit almost an hour later...

Not Calcharo with the 10:10 eyebrow LOL

The blush XD

Oooh I hope with his appearance in 2.3, we'll get to see him more in the future... Though I also kinda want one with Xiangli Yao too hmmm...

S&S and ZZ

Posted in: # Wuthering Waves | 2025 posts | blog images | Books | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag

Just a short update post~

1st: Book
Received this in the mail today.

Yeah. It's the version with the paper I like. I have a few of books in this series but I don't think I have one of Austen's work (for this version) before.

For reference, the others are:
  • The Great Gatsby (mentioned)
  • Dubliners & Madame Bovary
  • The Age of Innocence
  • Jane Eyre
2nd: WuWa
Did one pull today and managed to get Zhezhi's signature weapon!
[I probably should stop now...]

Early!
*sighhh* I guess this means it will be hard to get Changli's signature weapon in the next phase

I know I don't really need to get it but I just love them having their signature weapons and... mainly, I'm just generally lazy (lol). I rather have it easy than go farm more echoes XD

It was bittersweet sad

Posted in: 2023 posts | blog images | Books | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag | Reading

Finished "Jane in Love" today. Yup, just as expected. Ahhh but it's still so sad..! I'm happy that it has some sort of relation to "Persuasion" but uhhh I don't think I like it having a bittersweet ending (no matter how true it is to history :( ...I just want to see Jane happy)

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Oh yeah... received these books today~

  • The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior #4 - I've started reading the first volume (yay!) so this is just me getting the next volumes before it gets harder to get them...
  • The North Light - kinda random-ish choice. I've read his other books, not exactly favourites, but I don't mind reading more from him

JA

Posted in: 2023 posts | Jane Austen | Manga | Reading

Been reading the recently-purchased "Jane in Love". It feels very fanfic-ish to me, but the good kind... at the same time, it has that fillers stuff that come with most fanfics which is fine (I guess)... I do see myself getting tired of it later though *sigh*. Anyway, I was expecting humorous moments when Jane arrived in the future but so far I only have worries for her dear life (T_T)

Speaking of Jane Austen... found a manhwa that feels like both "Persuasion" and "Pride and Prejudice"~! The romance is like the one in "Persuasion" and the main character has a family like the Bennet family in "Pride and Prejudice". Only difference is, there's no Mr Bennet and the Mrs Bennet is a very competent mother of five daughters. The mum happens to be the antagonist (a very good one so far, not really a cockroach... but still a b*tch). The main character is the youngest daughter (so... like Lydia?) and she's as badass as her mother XD. I enjoy reading it very much :D

■■■■■

Posted in: 2023 posts | Books | Jane Austen | No Mood | Online Shopping

Oof I missed out on purchasing a used book on Shopee yesterday. It was still available before midnight... then it's not anymore today. This is annoying... should've just purchased it last night.

Fortunately, it's available at Kinokuniya but double the price.. well, at least, I can get it new...

Anyway, the book is Philip K. Dick's "The Man in the High Castle". It's not easy searching his name on Shopee *sigh*. I think you can guess why (and understandable). Once, I also tried searching for Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and that too didn't give any results. Tsk, tsk. One way around it is to just search "and Prejudice" (for PKD, I tried "Philip K. Di" and it worked) but oof I never thought Shopee is doing something like this in their platform. I wonder what other censored words they have in their list.

Buying books is a separate hobby

Posted in: 2023 posts | blog images | Books | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag | Qiong Yao 瓊瑤 | Reading | Web Novels

I'm here with more books. From Bookxcess.

Another one delivered by DHL. I've been getting more DHL deliveries recently, huh.

Since the photo/album archive thing seems fine, I'll try uploading some photos again... well, it's not like I haven't been uploading them though

  • "Bullet Train" - Felt the movie adaptation was just okay but I'm fine with reading the novel, I guess. The cover shows the casts the movie which I really don't mind at all. I'm very used to them. It's quite a thick book though wow. Over 400 pages and small font... kind of scared to start reading it lol
  • "To Have and to Hoax" - The synopsis reminds me a lot of the manga and web novels I've been reading so I really wanted to get this! Probably the main reason this purchase happened XD (just hoping that it will be a good read *sigh*)
  • "Miss Austen" - Another Austen-related book added to my Austen collection. Don't really have much to say other than that :P
Mood reading is going well(?) so far... although I can't really say I'm out of [physical book] reading slump because I've only been indulging myself with [physical] books I know I'll enjoy. Not brave enough to get out of my comfort zone yet. Haaah... If only I'm a more cruel reader, I might have better DNF-ing skills... The thing is, it's easy to DNF library books but not purchased books...

The Other Emma

Posted in: 2023 posts | Jane Austen | Our Power Woes | Reading

We had a blackout around 10.30am today. And as usual, with unreliable mobile internet and limited source of entertainment, I ended up finishing "The Watsons". I love it! I actually wished it's longer... I've read on Wiki that "Emma" might have been a rewritten version of this so I guess that's probably my cue to reread "Emma"...? Interestingly, I'm more in love with the Emma from "The Watsons" hmmm...

I think "The Watsons" is just perfect for those who want to start reading Austen's works from the shorter ones. Don't start from "Sanditon", which I find a bit boring. "Lady Susan" might be better for a later read because it's so different! You won't find that much toxicity(?) in her other novels.

Lady C B

Posted in: 2023 posts | Jane Austen | My Head Hurts | Reading

Oof. Just finished reading "Lady Susan". This was scandalous! SCANDALOUS! Wow. WTF was that. The drama! I did enjoy reading it though but grrh... I find it stressful to read for some reason. Maybe because of how gossipy it feels. The title character reminds me of the cockroach b*tches (=evil heroine-chan) in the manga/web novels I read so much that it came naturally that I don't want to see her win. What a terrible mother too! Poor Frederica.

Posted in: 2023 posts | Anime | Jane Austen | Reading | Seiyuu Love | Web Novels

Me, when I watch new anime recently: Is that Miyano... Mamoru???

It has been a very cloudy day... then it rained in the afternoon.

Finished an over 100 chapters web novel today. I feel like I know too many secrets today lol... The web novel is ongoing so I can't wait for the third arc - especially after everyone(?) seems to know about MC's secrets. I exaggerated... leave me be! I just read through a she-knows-that-he-knows-that-she-knows scene 😭 at least now he can finally flirt/court her openly, I guess... MC just needs to find courage and be confident~

...I'm also slowly going through my other currently-reading books. Almost wish that my version of Sanditon doesn't include Lady Susan and The Watsons. I... don't really care about Sanditon, it has taken me months to just finish that alone.

I was lucky

Posted in: 2023 posts | blog images | Books | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag

The water finally runs clear today. Quite surprised that it took longer this time.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

I guess you can call this my Shopee 4.4 book haul...? Both packages (BBW & Gempak Starz's) arrived today.

  1. "Fury" - Random pick. I just need it to be part of the Golden Age Masterworks series.
  2. "Mr. Darcy, Vampyre" - I had to do it. After werewolf Darcy fanfic, I want to see if vampire Darcy is any good XD.. Still meh about those stuff but for Jane Austen characters (especially favourite ones), I guess I will try reading them at least once lol..  Two years later, I got the vampire one... and with the cover I wanted (the other cover is just too similar to "Mr. Darcy's Bite" XD. I was lucky since it's the last copy!
  3. "Hakoniwa: Operasi Misteri" - Mystery manga!
  4. "Suzume" - Latest Japanese light novel that's translated to Malay (by them). I notice they have a lot of Makoto Shinkai's works which I end up having a bunch of... not particularly a fan of his, I just want to read whatever Japanese light novels they have translated :P
  5. "Peter Benchley Collection" (Jaws, The Girl of the Sea of Cortez, Beast) - Another random pick. Three books in condensed form...? Is it different from an abridged version?

No-water Friday

Posted in: 2023 posts | Currently Reading: Books | Jane Austen | Our Water Woes | Reading

And... we have no water again.

*sigh*

*SIGH*

The only good news today is... I made a big progress on a book I'm reading since October last year. It's a slow-going(?) story with an unlikable main character - at least in my case, there's nothing to like after 100 pages - but... I am a bit interested with the game [world] they had in the book so that's going to be my motivation to read, for now.

It's kind of funny going to this from "Mr. Darcy's Bite" lol...

Ah... I kinda wanna read a Jane Austen novel or fanfics based on her works......

Ghostbusting

Posted in: 2023 posts | Interest: Games | Jane Austen | Online Shopping | Reading

It's me again, the person who is currently enamoured with a book called "Mr. Darcy's Bite". I don't regret not reading it earlier (on the first day, I read the first chapter and never returned until few days ago :P).

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

For the sake of clearing digital space (again), I'm replaying "Ghostbusters: The Video Game" and I'm having a blast! I kind of confirmed that I'm stronger against horror stuff now compared to before. Very interesting really. The minor boss fights I used to be afraid of don't really bother me anymore. I also think my ME3 Multiplayer... activities have been a great help in making me aim [my weapons] better... which is kind of crazy, 'cos I don't know that's even possible. Perhaps it's just a placebo effect but who cares? As long as I'm having fun, right?? It really feels like you're doing ghostbusting work with them so I really recommend it if you're a fan of the movies.

30 minutes later...
Oh sh*t Book Depository is closing down

(Saw first on r/books *sigh*)

Fanfic Vibes

Posted in: 2023 posts | About Blogging | Currently Reading: Books | Jane Austen | Reading

Last night, I suddenly thought of adding "Day of the week" labels in this blog. For what, I don't even know myself. ...Although today I feel like back-pedalling that decision (after adding the labels to my 2005-2008 posts, mind you). I guess it can be fun to see which days I post most. Anyway for now, I'll leave them alone... because I might change my mind again later.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

So... I continued reading "Mr. Darcy's Bite" today and I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I lost sleep over this book. LOL. As someone whose indifference towards werewolves are the same with vampires/witches/zombies etc, this book is actually interesting...??? It really reminded me of my fanfics binge-reading days (one of those good, well-written ones!). If I stay invested until the end, I might give this 4 stars.

Maybe!

Mekar Pesona

Posted in: 2022 posts | blog images | Books | F. Scott Fitzgerald | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag

Yesterday's parcel.

The Malay translation of "Persuasion"~

Same translator with "Angkuh & Prasangka". I love the fact that they started with my two most favourite Jane Austen novels XD... Don't know if they'll continue with her other novels but I most probably will try to get them all.

Purchased via their Shopee shop.

Cover:

Simpler design
Oh yeah.. They also have the Malay translation for Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" [Tuan Gatsby].

Also, just knew today that they have a [physical] shop in KK, Sabah (@BiblioKK on Twitter). Haven't been in Alamesra for so long so I have no idea where they're located lol but I might want to go check them out later.

Forbidden Thoughts

Posted in: 2022 posts | Books | Jane Austen | My Dark Side | On This Day | Reading

ON THIS DAY...

As mentioned in last year's post, I only have a post on May 4th (pre-2020) which is in year 2010.

2021 was an OTD-ish post. This post will be like an update to that with some extra stuff added in.

>> TSGS #12
Amazingly, even though I went to Popular in November last year, I didn't manage to purchase this again. Might buy what I don't have later on Shopee (saw some pre-loved ones there too).

Recently, I don't really feel like reading this series(?) so I'm not in a hurry to get them. They are pretty short books (less than 200 pages) but it feels like forever to finish them lol...

>> Jane Austen
The 2010 & 2021 posts mentioned "Pride and Prejudice" & "Emma". Not talking about that again but...

I have "Emma" and "Jane Eyre" left to read from my not-rigid list from last year. I've decided to read "Jane Eyre" last so I should be reading "Emma" soon. Not sure if it's this month or other months, but that will be next. Also somehow planned(?) to reread "Northanger Abbey" and "Sense and Sensibility" in the future because I want to see where they rank in my favourite JA novels.

So far, it's like this:
① Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion
② n/a
③ Mansfield Park
⓸ Northanger Abbey
⓹ Emma
⓺ Sense and Sensibility

Probably will change again later after I reread those three.

>> Record
...it's like I'm making some kind of record [about my life]. -"Accidental Record"

I've been thinking... I might [also] be easily annoyed recently because I don't have a place to channel my tsukkomi [remarks]. Which is, on second thought, actually a good thing, because that means I don't throw out words carelessly... but I'm dying to make some sharp-tongued, rude, mean & insensitive comments inside. They're definitely not something I can post here. Are they forbidden thoughts? I don't think so... I let them roam free in my head without restraint. I guess they are considered forbidden because I forbid them to be materialized here.

Anyway... so I decided to write them in my 2018-now diary. "Shouldn't you've done that earlier?" The thing is that diary isn't supposed to be something as dark as this. Now, I'm allowing it to be that. It will be hurtful... but since I should be the only person who sees it, I'll be fine~

Also, I want to fill the diary until the end, if possible.

Hopefully, it will be 2018-2022 diary by the end of the year.

I KNEW IT

Posted in: 2022 posts | blog images | Books | F. Scott Fitzgerald | Jane Austen | Online Shopping Bag | Reading

Finished "Kane and Abel" few minutes before midnight.

This was a roller-coaster ride. Very engaging story. I guessed correctly some of the plot twists (including a major one), so when it got confirmed I was smiling and screaming "I knew it!" inside lol

...also cried a bit because why can't they be friends??? (T_T)

Anyway. Phew. I think this is what people meant when they say a book is plot-driven? It felt really, heavily plot-driven. Interesting storytelling.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

This arrived today!

It's the Malay translation of "Pride and Prejudice"! I just randomly found it while searching for Jane Austen on Shopee. Just got released in February (unfortunately I couldn't get the bookmark anymore - I think that was for those who pre-ordered last month? Oh well~)

"Angkuh & Prasangka", translated into Malay by Irni Fazrita Farid

The inside looks like this (Borders!)

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Today, a cousin came to "upgrade" the electrical panel (I think that's what it's called?) at home. So I think we were without electricity for at least an hour...?

Used the time to read this:

Oh yes, I already went past the two novels (that I said earlier on that I'll skip). I just need less than an hour to finish what's left.

At least I don't have to keep renewing my loan (we only get a week here *sigh*) anymore after I finish this...

Last Day of August

Posted in: 2021 posts | Jane Austen | Reading

I've finally finished "Old Friends & New Fancies" last night. Took me over a month to get to the end. *relieved sigh* Having so many of Jane Austen characters meet took some time to get used to. I wouldn't say that it had a slow start, only... I don't get the fussing over Miss Crawford in the beginning. Maybe because I'm fresh (a-month-over fresh) off reading "Mansfield Park" - I don't care about this character at all! I don't necessarily hate her, just indifferent. Anyway, I loved the second half of the book... and that helped speed up my reading a bit. Even I'm surprised by myself with my sudden fondness for the book near the end.

I consider this a high quality fan fiction, seeing how it's written similar to Jane Austen's style (although not that alike). But at the same time, I also think it might not be the fan fiction you need.  It focused more on the side characters of the original novels while the paired couples play the matchmakers. It's fortunate that one of the characters is a character I do wish to know more about (I'm just going to pretend Miss Crawford is not there grrh).

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

So here we are. The last day of August. Actually felt that the month went by so fast. Just like July. Hmm.

"Palace" is at a weird... place-... I mean arc, now that I couldn't watch a whole episode without rolling my eyes. Most of the time I'm like "Seriously?" Probably partly my problem because I started not paying attention but huh... It escalated to something else after that tender moments with fourth prince. So awkward.

Leftover Princess

Posted in: 2021 posts | Jane Austen | Knit/Crochet Stuff | Reading

Watched the latest movie adaptation of Emma last night while knitting another one of this. I enjoyed it. Still don't like the character Emma but yeah, I liked the movie. I haven't watch any other adaptations (except Clueless) so I don't know how it compares to the others. The falling in love scene happened so instantly but I'm okay with that.

Now I'm more excited to reread it!

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

I've decided to get back into the world of "Okobore Hime to Entaku no Kishi" (thank you internet and kind person who translates) and arggh... now I want to get the novels again *sigh*. I love, love, love the main character so much. I really wish this series gets translated into English because the world needs to know about the leftover princess and her knights.

Things I'll do for these series:
  • Buy the books (light novels). And the manga version later.
  • Read spoilers. Yes, you read that correctly. I'm desperate to know what happened in the end so I did check some Japanese blogs but I couldn't make sense of it because I don't have any context of what's happening lol (I just want to know if she ends up with Duke really)
  • Attempt-read the books if I ever managed to buy them. Again, I'm desperate to know the ending.

Reading Dilemma

Posted in: 2021 posts | Jane Austen | Online Shopping | Reading

There was a change to shipping on Shopee recently and it's... not fun. I'm so used to using PosLaju for BBW books and now the delivery is done by Ninja Van which took longer. *sigh* I really want to know.. want to understand what's happening behind the scene regarding this. Maybe they got so overloaded by online orders that all the courier services couldn't keep up. Oh well. Since I'm the type that will be fine as long as it gets delivered, I just have to get used to this again. *sigh*

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

On "Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict". Until the end, I still don't like the main character. The story overall is just okay-ish - nothing special. A bit meh. I have the sequel but this first book made me not look forward to that.

Planned to read Jane Austen's "Sanditon" next but I'm in a mood for other books. Mystery, thriller books? But at the same time, I kind of want to read the other Sci-Fi books that I have. Hmm.

I still have that fear of getting into a reading slump. It made me reluctant to pick up longer books because "What if I get bored?" I'm aware that I have the choice to stop reading but that habit is a bit hard to apply for me. I might do it excessively and in the end still fall into a slump.

Be Calm and Quiet

Posted in: 2021 posts | Jane Austen | Youtube

A title that serves more as a reminder for myself. Been hearing stuff about the local government and now I feel irritated. It's only a bit and that's enough to put me in a bad "I have nothing good to say" mood.

Watched "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries" web series recently (yesterday, actually XD). Quite enjoyed this modern retelling of P&P. Most surprised by a very nicely fleshed out Lydia Bennet. It's made in a vlog style which reminds me a lot of old school blogs (only in video form - vlog duh!) and they are very short. The videos are less than 10 minutes so it's very bingeable and marathon-friendly. Apparently there's also a web series for Emma (called "Emma Approved") but I haven't watch that yet.
