I Finished a Book

Posted in: 2021 posts | Reading | The Weather Looks...

Two weeks later, I've managed to finish two books from the five books mentioned in this post. "The Professor"... and "Lust", which I just finished an hour ago. It was surprisingly easy to read. Feels like I can like short stories again (almost!). I mean... I guess I like the writing style. I was worried at first, since the theme is about lust, but just as the subtitle says, they were "Tales of Craving and Desire". Some made me laugh, some of the endings surprised me ("WHAT?!", "WTF", "OMG").. there were one or two that I feel neutral to. No explicit erm.. sexy times (lol), as least not like what you see in romance books, but they are still there, implied or briefly mentioned. It is for mature readers, mind you.

So it seems like I might get the other short stories collections after all because I enjoyed reading this one.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

It has been raining on and off since yesterday. Not raining at this moment but I can imagine how humid it would be outside. Yes, I didn't go out of the house today. Whenever there is rain, I always leave the [hopefully] drying laundry outside until tomorrow.

Tomorrow!

Posted in: 2021 posts | I Need to Talk About My Dreams | Reading

Woke up with a stuffy nose. Not due to flu or cold. I think it's time to clean the dust on wall again. Ahhh so troublesome...

Also, I dreamt about secondary school again (why is it always school-themed???). A new semester started. Even though the classroom used was the one I had in Form 1. And we had a room (I dunno where, maybe near the school hall) that connects to the space...? It was actually quite normal but those ridiculous details reminded me that I'm having a weird dream again.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Should I do the jar thing today too? I don't think there's any difference if I do it today or tomorrow... hmmm.

To date, I have five(!) books I've chosen from the jar that I haven't finished reading:
  1. Miss Darcy Falls in Love - Somewhat a slow start in the beginning. I could just barely keep up with the addition of new characters (fanfiction-ish, duh), new names and stuff. Although it's a different story, I feel like I've enough of Miss Darcy fanfics when I finished "Old Friends & New Fancies". Will finish it eventually but it will take time.
  2. Sophie's World - This one is interesting so far! Although I haven't made much progress since the last time I read it.
  3. The Professor - Might finish it before the end of month. I thought it would bore me but surprisingly I'm very engaged with the main character's story.
  4. Lust - I'm slowly getting through the short stories...
  5. Selected Short Stories and The Rover - Just started reading this yesterday night :P... Ah but the book is more than 400 pages, half of it are the short stories while the other half is the novel "The Rover". I think this one will be until next year lol
Hmmm I feel like I should not pick a new book at this moment... but I'll do it anyway!

Tomorrow!

Whatever Saturday

Posted in: 2021 posts | Pick-A-New-Book Jar

It's a nice sunny morning and... I think I'm going use the jar today, instead of tomorrow.

Just feeling like doing it today. ...Yes, I haven't finished the four books from this challenge. I can't estimate when I'll finish them. But I'm still doing it! I want to get mentally-prepared for it or something.

Okay, wishes... I wish... erm... Why do I think it will not be something I'm in favour with? What if it's a collection of short stories again? Hmmm. Oh well. I wish for something easy to read. And short. Something less than 200 pages.

*shakes*

*more shaking*

...so another book I purchased in September. In fact, it's in the same batch with "Lust".

It's Joseph Conrad's "Selected Short Stories & The Rover".

*3-minute silence*

I'll just go get my mental prepared for this...

Rein it in

Rainy day~

Received this book today. Found it on BetterWorldBooks. Yes, yes... haven't started reading her books yet but since I have two books from this Penguin Modern Classics series, I [kinda] wanted to complete it...?

"Lust, Caution" by Eileen Chang

Been feeling irritable recently. Kind of itching to make some very mean remarks but I managed to stop myself lol

おつかれさま~

Posted in: 2021 posts | blog images | Books | Online Shopping Bag | Youtube

Otsukare (although it's not the end of the day yet lol) and big thanks to people who make deliveries today on Malaysia Day

I thought there weren't going to be any PosLaju deliveries today since it's public holiday but I was proven wrong...

These arrived today. I actually purchased these the day after 9.9 sale, all because of this:

BBW on Shopee
They don't even include books I want to read but I couldn't resist. So, let me present to you.. Part 2 of my risky batch. I did choose some of these based on what I saw on Goodreads so erm.. I don't know what to expect really.

Roald Dahl's "Lust: Tales of Craving and Desire"・Amanda Lees' "Kumari: Goddess of Secrets"・Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels"・Fiona Gibson's "The Mum Who'd Had Enough"・Edward St Aubyn's "Lost for Words"
I can't wait to add these to the jar :P

Also added these three which were in my wishlist.

Joseph Conrad's "Selected Short Stories & The Rover"・Arkady & Boris Strugatsky's "Monday Starts on Saturday"・Joanna Russ' "The Female Man"
The version of "Selected Short Stories" I got included the "The Rover" in the title, which was different from what I see on Goodreads.

And this random looks-fun poker set thing. It's a small tin box with a thin book inside. Also included the things mentioned on box:

Bwahaha

Honestly though, I do want to learn to play so I'm fine with this. It's fine that I don't have anyone I can play with lol... Sometimes it gets mentioned in books, games, movies, TV shows etc so I think it's helpful to at least know the basics.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

I think I had a better sleep last night (or early morning). Which is a surprise that I shouldn't be surprised at... it's all in the cycle. I knew it will turn out like this but I still get amazed every time it happens.

Anyway, I finished watching PockySweet's playthrough of  "Twelve Minutes" today and I think the game's story was really good. So layered, so many twists! His playthrough was fun too of course (as usual). I usually don't talk about these things in this blog but I really want to today because I was surprised to see famous names in the credits. James McAvoy! I totally didn't recognise him lol

I love playing "Guess the seiyuu" with anime that I randomly decide to watch so this kinda makes me a bit sad that I didn't see hear that XD... but I don't usually pay attention to non-japanese voice acting world (except those I'm familiar with) so it's a given, I guess.

Pick-A-New-Book Jar 2021-2022

Posted in: 2022 posts | Pick-A-New-Book Jar | Reading Challenge

I finally finished the last book from the jar yesterday so now I can make this post. Something like a conclusion post.

Through this jar, I've finished 53 books... and counting those with 3 stars and above, I guess I enjoyed most of them...??? I find it interesting that I don't have any 4.5 stars ones lol. Although... if you only want to count 4-5 stars, then that's very few, huh. I think that's one of risks with these jars. You might have fewer favourites depending on what you put in there. And my reading taste is weird so maybe I'm not the best example to refer to :P

Will I recommend this method to find the next book to read from your shelf?
Absolutely. Very helpful when you don't know which one to start from especially if you have many to choose from.

Will I do it again?
Oh, yes. Starting Sunday next week. Coincidentally it's a new year so... I'm doing it again next year! It's going to be biweekly - a book every two weeks. If there's a fifth week, then it's going to be rest day/free week. So basically, two books per month.

Folders in Spotify

Posted in: 2021 posts | Pick-A-New-Book Jar | Reading | Spotify

I think I spent almost an hour today organising my Spotify playlists. I just realised I can put the playlists in folders today...? I probably saw the option before but never bothered to explore more. Had to do it on desktop though. I don't think it's doable in the mobile app. After that, I sorted the playlists according to my own arrangement -> this really helped a lot because I kept getting lost looking for the playlist I want. *A little accomplishment for the start of this week :P*

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

As usual, picking a new book again today! Even though I still have four unfinished books under this challenge XD. At this point, it looks like I'm just building my TBR list... but it's not!

Okay... *shakes jar*

"Lust" by Roald Dahl.

Nooooooooooooo....

So a quite recently-purchased book (September), huh.

And short stories... honestly, not looking forward to that.

At least I get to try reading this to decide if I want to get the other short story collections on BX/BBW (if they're still available).

Crabzy

Posted in: 2022 posts | In Zombie Mode | Reading

Crabby and crazy day~

Today felt just like yesterday *sigh*

PosLaju deliveryman came. A new face. Glad that I don't have to go to their office or something. Didn't ask him why but I kind of guessed they probably didn't have enough time to deliver yesterday (understandable).. but seeing that status update on Shopee yesterday was terrifying.

I actually took the effort to wake up early today because "What if the PosLaju guy comes early???"... Now I'm very sleepy.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Saw something I find amusing last night. I was behind my reading schedule for "Trickery" so when I was doing my catching up, I realised one of the short stories was something I read before in "Lust". And it was a long one too (one of my favourites!) - it's around 60 pages long. Yes, I skipped reading that story XD. Now I'm like two days ahead schedule.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

Did some "organising" on my reading jars. Took out  many titles that are too long and/or too difficult from the Pick-a-New-Book jar. I made another [separate] jar... but that will happen behind-the-scene :P. This jar might not be mentioned much in this blog.

Last Title

Posted in: 2022 posts | Interest: TV | Netflix | Pick-A-New-Book Jar | Reading

Was watching the season 2 of "Hotaru no Hikari" last night and the internet connection just died. Looking at people's tweets on Twitter, seems like it continued to be unstable (on and off) today. Which is not fun :\

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

I finished "Miss Darcy Falls in Love" today... [I might regret this later... XD] so I decided to use the jar today...! Last time for January~!

The book was another example of a case where if only I decide to read it continually, I would have finished it much earlier. Instead of 3 months, I could've finished this in 3 hours. I'm blaming my procrastinating and escapist self for this. As for the book... definitely prefer "Old Friends & New Fancies" to this. It's unfortunate that I already had my fill of Miss Darcy fanfic from that. "Miss Darcy Falls in Love" reads like a slow-burn fanfic where you will shout, "Oh, just kiss already!" at them. We have a new male lead and characters here but I kept thinking I already like the pairing in "Old Friends" so... you see how hesitant I am in reading this?

One would suggest to DNF it earlier but.. yeah about this. I think it's okay if I don't DNF books that much. I already DNF so many things (like anime, TV shows, Youtube videos... I've made peace with this last year), I'll be fine reading books until the end even if I don't enjoy it. Unless when it really makes me uncomfortable, of course.

⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰ ⋱⋰

That aside... time to *shake* *shake* and pull out a title from the jar~!

Okay... I got "Kumari: Goddess of Secrets" by Amanda Lees.

A random book purchased in September last year. Same batch with "Lust" & Joseph Conrad's short stories book. Lol this also felt so random, for today. This looks like an easy read... so I'm glad for that.
