I'm Still Here!

I'm here with some updates!

Reading

I've been reading... but most of the books I read this year are surely from flower-picking trips and the library. Damn. Didn't think I would be doing that much audiobook-listening in my life but here we are. I'm in my audiobook era, apparently. It's a very irresistible method when you dread opening a physical (& digital!) books but still want to do some reading. I still won't touch those heavy ones but the ones that's easy to follow and maybe a book I've read before are very much welcome. I usually listen to one while playing a game that doesn't demand my full attention or when doing the dishes. I got peer-pressured (something like this XD) into reading two audiobooks but it's okay, I would just return early if I don't plan to spend time reading them. A couple of audiobooks are just to accompany my slow physical reading journey...

Oh yeah, one of the audiobooks I finished was "Real Ghost Stories of Borneo 1". I never heard about this series before but it looks like the Borneo's version of TSGS so I thought that was cool! One of the stories talked about their experience in KK and described the hotel they went to as a white castle.. Jeez, I wonder which hotel is that? :P
But seriously though, I consider that place to be old (I went there when I was little) so I wouldn't be surprised if some stuff happened there.

Books

I had a brief silly moment few weeks ago where I almost buy a second copy of "The Labyrinth House Murders"... totally saved by my LibraryThing (which is where I mainly catalogue books I own). I think it was partially me misremembering that what I meant to get is the one I got here. Highly recommend the site to anyone who has similar problems (or wants to avoid this) to use LT. I just started using it again back in 2020 when I realised I have a lifetime account (it used to have a limit on number of books you can add, if I'm not mistaken)... but then couple months later in the same year, they became free (no fees, no limits).

When was the last time I took a photo of books like this? XD

Anime

Great news~ I'm kind of out of the watching slump? I guess that's thanks to Tondemo Skill S2! I've re-watched the whole S1 and still enjoyed it (most of the time with food). But I'm so rusty with my I-know-that-seiyuu game XD. It was a pleasant surprise to know that Elrand is voiced by Namikawa Daisuke, it's so fitting! I wish we can meet Gonji soon but I guess that would be in the next season. Even in the WN, if I remember correctly, there's a big time gap between Dora and Gonji. At least Dora is here! I really need to catch up with the WN... I might need to start from the beginning again...

Forgotten Post

Forgot to post about these yesterday~

I received some books:

Done!

I had a phase in my life where I was quite obsessed with the manga of "True Love Fades Away When the Contract Ends"... I was going to read the WN but I got distracted lol. It's not isekai... more of a historical fiction romance and I love the main characters! I want to see how they get together. Anyway, it was a nice surprise to see that it got officially translated into English.

Oh yeah, after I finished reading "The Ark Sakura" (just an okay read, but I want to read more from the author), I just casually(?) decided that I'm rereading 7th Time Loop light novels :P

Thanks to my [selective] crappy memory, it feels like it's my first time reading it again lol... of course, I remember the major events but honestly some small, detailed parts make me go "Oh I don't remember this from before" or "Oh yeah, this happened...".

So far, some of the things are:

Rishe thought Arnold is beautiful in the beginning (totally can relate XD... seeing the illustrations in the light novel reminds me again how handsome he is)
I don't like Mary. She's the girl who snatched Rishe's ex-fiancé away. Rishe doesn't hate her but remembering how she told lies about Rishe which made Clown Prince Dietrich do the whole condemnation & engagement-breaking thing, I don't need/want to like her. It wasn't a focus in the light novel (though there are extras in the manga about her sob story), but her character can easily be like one of those cockroach b*tches. I guess it's fortunate she sounds like a clever one at least but still... don't need her~! (Can't wait for the story to move on to Galkhein)
I remember this one but it still surprises me that Rishe's parents are so horrible. They wouldn't even let her get her stuff after knowing the broken engagement. Gah! I guess it makes it easier for us (the readers) - we don't have to care about her family.
It's mentioned that Rishe learnt how to use a sword for basic self-defence during her noble lady days. So it shouldn't be suspicious that she's able to wield one (although I guess what Arnold find interesting is that she acts like a trained knight/swordswoman, which was an experience she got from her 6th life)

...that's all for now. I've been reading super slowly. Reading hasn't been smooth-sailing these past couple of months. Now it feels like I want to read everything but I don't want to read fast (or maybe I just can't sit down long enough to read for a long period of time hmm).

Reading updates~~~

✦ Physical Books

I'm still generally in a slow reading mode (very reading slump-like). But recently, I found solace(?) in reading a non-fiction book about Youtube... I actually started reading this last December but hadn't pick it up again since because that's just how I am with non-fiction books XD... It's more about Youtube's history on viral videos (so far) and I've been having fun with reading about memes I'm not familiar with. Usually, they are just those I didn't participate in watching for some reason in the past but I did hear about some of them. It's interesting how they were viewed as weird and kind of revolutionary at that time but they would totally be (& sound) normal nowadays.

✦ e-Books

It's slow reading in this area too but that's nothing new. I started reading a new book at the end of April... & although it's romance, it's of a subgenre I'm not used to: K-pop Romance. LOL. I'm only "willing" to jump into reading this because I used to read the author's stories on Tumblr (loved her writing!). If she still writes the same way, there shouldn't be any problems in enjoying the book...

✦ Manga/Manhwa

Been [re]reading some saintess-themed ones recently (because apparently that's the mood I'm in for haha) and one of it is "A Tale of the Secret Saint".... Gah!!! I'm really curious about which of them is the reincarnation of Sirius! I don't think it's confirmed yet in the web novel but I might be wrong... I guess that means I need to read the WN next *sigh*

Anyway, kind of got reminded how disgusting their version of "modern" saintesses are. Like seriously, ewwww. I don't even want to call them cockroach b*tches. They are just disgusting saintesses as of now (it's a category of their own, evil and fake saintesses might not be included). Yes, there are still some nice ones but the ones that are not are really irritating. I can't stand seeing them embarrass themselves, parading around with their meagre powers, in front of the great(er) [but secret] saintess Fia.

Oh yeah, I think at this point it's already an open-but-not-really secret that everyone knows that Fia's a saintess or at least has some great powers XD, even if it's by feeling or sense (like seriously, it should be easy to deduce she's one with the things she said and done lol). I'm not even going to be surprised if she makes the reveal later on and people around her will just be "We already [kind of] know that! That's old news!" :P

On manhwa side, I've been enjoying some funny and absurd ones recently. There were some angsty ones but I was rest assured from some spoilers that they would be worth it. Some time ago, I acknowledged to myself that I don't mind angst in stories just as long as the pay-off is a good one. That usually mean I want it to have a happy ending and all the bad guys get their just deserts, in whichever form that might be.

Reading Schedule Generator! There was a period that I didn't use it... then when I got lazy about printing it, I just wrote the schedule down somewhere XD. I think the last time I was using it was to help with avoiding reading slumps (lol) until I started using the ReadMore app again. The app has its own reading schedule feature so I guess that means I still use one? XD

I don't use it for every book I read but currently I do use one for "Leviathan Wakes"....

Anime

--- Still kind of in a watching slump, but I'm trying to watch a few of them (the ones I've read before)... it's a slow progress *sigh*

Games

--- I've been watching some of John Wolfe's playthrough on his JohnTwolfe channel... I enjoyed watching his Dredge playthroughs! I think that kind of got me back to wanting to read some H. P. Lovecraft stories (Thanks, John! Although I haven't started reading it... XD). He just started playing Stray so I'm excited to follow that one next! He's also playing Lethal Company with his friends & it was fun chaos :P

--- I am still interested in doing a Mass Effect Weekend thing but I need to think more about how I'm doing it.

"What's the point of cleaning if it just gets messy again?"

--- Yep.

Spotify

--- Currently I'm obsessed with this one track from Strawberry Night movie OST

Spam

--- I'm noticing a weird thing in this blog's stats page (I think I'm getting some of those spam clicks?). If it gets out of hand I might make this blog private for a while.

Reading

--- Reading is... sufficient(?) at this moment. I'm reading just enough. "Leviathan Wakes" is surprisingly a comfortable read so far (considering the stuff happening in the story), I'm enjoying it so far! I'm also reading "Death Notice" and I like the mystery~

--- Recently, I've been reading "For My Derelict Favorite" (Thus, post title = Female lead's name). It started from the manhwa and now to the fan-translated web novel. I seriously need to know how it ends! The antagonist is a good [quality] villain. She's not exactly the cockroach kind (I thought of using praying mantis b*tch, since she's a saintess but maybe not... since FL called her queen bee... so... Queen Bee B*tch??) I love how FL uses QBB own beliefs against the Queen B*tch herself (wait, am I missing a word? :P). I can't wait to read more!!!

Fangirling Over Rishe Again

Started re-reading 7th Time Loop manga and I'm falling in love with Rishe again~~~ Volume 1 is so, so, so good (great manga adaptation of the web novel/light novel series) 😭 I can't wait until they get to arcs from the newer volumes of the light novels... Falling in love with Arnold (again) will happen later as I (the reader) am still cautious of his motives (LOL I say this even though it's like the third time I'm rereading the manga haha #rereadingisgreat) but it's so much fun seeing him falling(?) for Rishe again~!

Despite what I said way back in September, I've yet continue reading the web novel (because I got distracted by manhwas muahaha)... might actually do it this year as part of "Things I want to read before the year ends" stuff 😅 ...although not reading is a nice option too, since the fifth volume of the light novel (English translation) is coming out in April next year. I'll let my mood decide later lol

I'm being mean again today

■ Mood: Anxiously excited
■ Drink: Iced Instant Coffee

I was in the middle of reading Volume 4 of "7th Time Loop" when a thought came to me. I might not want to read the web novel after this...??? Like, I don't want to spoil myself... or want to keep it a surprise or something???

NAAAHHH I'm just afraid of reading what's ahead I guess... I'm worried that something bad will happen (though it's already implied that from the beginning duh!) Ahhh this author always write stories like these...! I am reading two of her other stories that also have this "danger lurking behind" feeling to it... [& without shame] I ate it all up. Can't help it, my kind of story :P

In the end, I think I would read the web novel anyway... Out of fervent curiosity (unfortunately)... and fear of missing out. I need to know as much as I can...

"What You Are Looking For is in the Library" - ...Well, because it has library in the title XD
"The Forest of Wool and Steel" - This is about piano-tuners! Which I think is quite rare to find in fiction books.

Had a polarizing reaction towards anime today. The latest episode of "The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior" (#10) was crazy good (Pride was too cool near the end 😭🤩)... and then latest episode of "Sugar Apple Fairy Tale" (#22) [grrh almost typed out "Sugar Honey Iced Tea" this time] was... MEH 😑😒.

I really don't like Anne, huh. At this point, it's just me hate-watching the show. Like, I can't wait for this anime to end because I don't want to watch her anymore! When the villain talked about wiping out humans (not exact words), I find myself agreeing with him lol...[....and here I am siding(?) with the villains again *sigh*]. The only scenes I can watch are scenes without Anne. Barely. Because some of them like to talk about her. (WHO CARES) If only there's a way to automatically blur out her appearance in the anime... and maybe mute her lines because I don't wanna hear her speak a word 🙄

Buying books is a separate hobby

Another one delivered by DHL. I've been getting more DHL deliveries recently, huh.

Since the photo/album archive thing seems fine, I'll try uploading some photos again... ~~well, it's not like I haven't been uploading them though~~

"Bullet Train" - Felt the movie adaptation was just okay but I'm fine with reading the novel, I guess. The cover shows the casts the movie which I really don't mind at all. I'm very used to them. It's quite a thick book though wow. Over 400 pages and small font... kind of scared to start reading it lol
"To Have and to Hoax" - The synopsis reminds me a lot of the manga and web novels I've been reading so I really wanted to get this! Probably the main reason this purchase happened XD (just hoping that it will be a good read *sigh*)
"Miss Austen" - Another Austen-related book added to my Austen collection. Don't really have much to say other than that :P

Mood reading is going well(?) so far... although I can't really say I'm out of [physical book] reading slump because I've only been indulging myself with [physical] books I know I'll enjoy. Not brave enough to get out of my comfort zone yet. Haaah... If only I'm a more cruel reader, I might have better DNF-ing skills... The thing is, it's easy to DNF library books but not purchased books...

The water is back...!

Another uneventful day.

Oh yeah. Since I got it done pretty early (regarding my StoryGraph small goal), I started playing around with the reading challenges feature. Instead of putting the amount of books as my goal, I chose to read 20k pages as my goal - no idea how many books that approximately are but it's a pretty good round number. Other than that, I also make a daily goal of reading 50 pages per day. My point is... since I want to hit that daily goal, I've been reading "7th Time Loop" light novels about that amount everyday. Sometimes I have to wait until 12am to continue reading... lol it's a bit silly, I know.. Most of the time, I read some web novels while waiting for that time... and ends up not doing my daily goal after all lol. It would be hours of web novels and then reading "7th Time Loop" around 10-11pm.. so close to 12am.

*sigh*

I also made the same daily goal on the ReadMore app... oh, before I forget. This app has it's own reading schedule (it's a pro version feature though) which I just realised recently. Not going to use it much at this moment but I'm glad it has that feature! I might use it again the future.

It's Friday...

It's raining again...

...Happy Birthday to me~!

It's a pretty uneventful birthday though... unless you count having no water supply as one of those events (I refuse). *sigh* It's unfortunate that it has to happen on this day.. I do hope it will be back tomorrow. At this moment, I'm not feeling the stress yet. Ignorance was a bliss yesterday - Did laundry (using water from the tank) without a care in the world (ooof). Haaaah... this things, you usually only notice it after they happened.

Lol this post is turning gloomy at this point... it's not that really! Just another normal Friday here. I'm having fun reading "7th Time Loop" light novels (currently reading Volume 2) because I noticed there are a few small details not mentioned in the manga version. Been listing out Rishe's lives (there are two that I don't know what she decided to live as)... and some theories related to Arnold. Okay, now I'm excited!... since I can continue reading the web novel after the light novels... I doubt there'll be any answers but at least I can read ahead...?

Found a short web novel today. It had a rough beginning (toxic stepmother and bad stepsister) but I think I laughed most of it because the male lead (a duke this time, for a change) made a contract (that involved a spirit) wanting nothing to do with the wife he's marrying. If she tries to seduce him into bed (=breaks the contract), she'll be cursed. MC is fine with that. The duke isn't. The contract thing was not done according to his wishes (it was his aides' doings, they thought MC is bad), and MC happens to be his long-lost childhood love... so you see... he'll want to break that contract XD -- yeah I was laughing my meanest laugh, waiting for him to realise that muahaha... Fortunately, he's not the one who came up with the contract idea because the contract sounds so terrible... Even if MC was okay with it and even praised how "good" it was/it didn't have any loopholes.

Don't mess with a dragon

Hmmmm.... feels like those angsty, tragic stories are coming this weekend too. I've already stumbled upon a few this morning. *sigh*

Had fun reading the web novel I mentioned yesterday. She finally told the prince who she really was. Some stuff happened and she ended up back at her house and discovered the dragon was in her [human] body. Only that, people thought she had gone crazy because of her broken engagement (the "lady" was acting beast-like). The prince and his knights arrived just in time to hold her back before she hurt her ex-fiancé who was ~~conveniently~~ visiting her house. Ex was being a rude jerk and said some hurtful things about MC... the prince "gave" permission (like he really said "Oops, the rope was loose...!") for MC to scare the ex... as a dragon. I think that's one of best method of exacting revenge... roar hard at your ex as a dragon and make it look like you're going to eat him as your afternoon snack.

Yup, prince has his haraguro moments alright... MC (as a dragon) even thought his smile looked scarier than a dragon XD

Red Dragon

It's a day of getting things done(?)...!

Maybe I'll finally go through the unwatched anime in my Watch Later playlist today???

Also, I feel like I've broaden(?) my horizons or something. Today, I found another web novel about a lady with a broken engagement. On the way home, while she was busy thinking how to explain to her parents about her engagement status, her carriage got involved in a dragon attack. She lost consciousness and woke up as a dragon! She apparently body-swapped with a red dragon and is now in danger of being killed. The best thing about this is... that's not the craziest part. The second prince wanted to keep the dragon alive. When everyone made a fuss about it he asked the dragon to lower her head and he gave her a light kiss on her mouth. It's their country's custom that when an unmarried man and woman kiss in the public, they have to get married - OH YES, that means he's going to marry the dragon! After they got together(?), the dragon started acting like a housewife... can you imagine how she's doing that as a dragon???? TOO FUNNY~~~ Oh yeah, the prince is described to be a bit black-hearted too so I look forward to seeing more of that lol~

....got too excited with that but most of dragon stuff do that to me so it can't be helped (huehuehue). Dragons are fascinating!

Me, when I watch new anime recently: Is that Miyano... Mamoru???

It has been a very cloudy day... then it rained in the afternoon.

Finished an over 100 chapters web novel today. I feel like I know too many secrets today lol... The web novel is ongoing so I can't wait for the third arc - especially after everyone(?) seems to know about MC's secrets. I exaggerated... leave me be! I just read through a she-knows-that-he-knows-that-she-knows scene 😭 at least now he can finally flirt/court her openly, I guess... MC just needs to find courage and be confident~

...I'm also slowly going through my other currently-reading books. Almost wish that my version of Sanditon doesn't include Lady Susan and The Watsons. I... don't really care about Sanditon, it has taken me months to just finish that alone.

*sigh*

I've started a few more web novels since yesterday's post. No tragic stories encountered yet. Well, it's not like I plan to have them lol... I found a few wholesome ones. For example, one has a lady whose past life was a demon king (monster type, mind you, not a humanoid demon king)... yeah, that memory made her human personality very interesting. What I love is the subtle ways she's getting closer to her husband, who didn't want to have anything to do with her at first. Another web novel has the villainess getting engaged to a different prince, and they surprisingly match each other pretty well... apparently both wanted a partner that is gorilla-like or someone closer to one XD (saw its manga's omake chapter with an image of a gorilla prince and "interesting" gorilla lady --- made my day! lol)

From the web novel, it seems like it's going to be the slow burn type of romance... with the prince falling for her first, I think... I haven't read that far yet. ~~I did jump around to be spoiled, and I'm rest assured that the couple is happening so I'm totally reading this web novel~~~

I'm on the last case in "Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments", so I might finish it tonight... I also want to finish reading "The Mum Who'd Had Enough"... I don't know which I'll do first, but one of them is happening tonight!

Saved, again!

First, the web novel (manga version) is about someone having one year left to live... I was spoiled(?) by the author themselves who included that he'll recover in the summary :P... I'm guessing that's not the ending so it's okay to tell lol

The other one... *sigh* I don't know why I tend to gravitate towards angsty, tragic stories during the weekends... but not this weekend! The web novel is deleted by the author last year, so I'm saved from reading it!

Let's only read happy ones this weekend... 😭

Another WN

I've just finished a web novel with another idiot prince... but it's okay, his brother's the one who's the nice and better prince XD.. The true villain is the idiot prince's mother, the queen, so there's no harsh "punishment" scene for him (he did apologise to MC so there's that).. but.. hear me out. His new fiancée moved her target to the nicer prince and so she's totally okay when the queen said she should leave idiot prince alone then. Of course, nicer prince showed that he's interested in another woman (MC). The new fiancée complained, saying she's better than MC then idiot prince arrived at the scene saying he's leaving to a faraway place where he'll take charge of and new fiancée will follow him. She refused. Idiot prince said she has no choice since their engagement is still on.... yeah, kind of surprised with that development - I think it's a bit funny :P, but I guess that's punishment enough for them.

Anyway, nice prince is really nice! He wants MC to be free/herself so they are going to a journey together... He'll still be courting her (MC also likes him so it shouldn't be long before they start dating, I think), but he's not going to be the Crown Prince, so they won't have to worry about ruling the country in the future... I just thought that's quite refreshing. It's a pity though, they could've been engaged earlier but nice prince's mother died before that happen (loved how he answered yes when his mother asked if he wants to get engaged with her - he actually already has a crush on MC that early).

Made some progress on reading "The Mum Who'd Had Enough". It hasn't been easy to read about a married couple falling apart, but it looks hopeful(?) so far... which can go both ways. I'm worried about how long the book is though. It's not exactly angst, but it feels like that for me and I really don't look forward to reading hundred pages of angst...

Lies

It rained in the morning, then on and off throughout the day...

Received some books in the mail today. One of it is a mass paperback version of "The Phantom of the Opera"... I don't even know when I'm going to read this lol. Classics will be a bit difficult to read during a reading slump. Chose the book because I need to add something to get free shipping on Amazon SG... and I never read it before.

Read some manga with nasty prince characters... ahh I want to get back to the nice ones... but I keep getting distracted...

Also, I've reached this point in my web novels reading adventures... when I see 40-60 chapters, I say, "Yeah, I can manage that~" ~~lies, I'm full of lies~~ (T___T)

I mean... I try to finish them but sometimes my mood changes & I leave to read other things oops

Finished "Midnight in Austenland" today. I like it.. a lot. I ended up giving an extra half star (so, 4.5 stars) on GR so it's currently rounded to 5 stars. I appreciate the way it's written and the humour so I don't mind giving a higher than average rating.

So that small goal is now half complete. One physical book more to go.

I've been putting off reading this one web novel (it started with the manga version)... which I finally read more recently. Yeah, the usual stuff... Just want to mention, I'm kind of impressed with the male lead (a prince that can transform into a lion!). He's like, fast. I mean, since I'm still pretty much in the beginning... he manage things so fast (I guess after he made his decision) so any misunderstandings didn't even have time to happen lol. A duke's daughter bullied/harassed MC thrice, he got her punished and banished from the royal capital. MC's younger sister wished to steal her not-yet-fiancé Prince again, he told the sister NO, he's not interested and never to appear in front of him again (the sister was also rude to him, a prince, so...).

He's all nice and righteous like that but he does have a weird(?) quirk... since he's also a lion, his attraction to MC kind of started from her scent :P. MC smells like catnip (specifically, silvervine @ matatabi) to him. Nothing weird has happen yet (they just confessed to each other!) but since this is not an R18 work, I think it should be fine lol

The damage is 88 chapters. Currently, I'm in Chapter 33.

...I finished adding books I've read on StoryGraph. Amazingly, I got it done in two days. Years before 2022 might be incomplete though because some are not available there... and I don't want to spend more efforts in putting them in manually. Had to skip quite a lot but I think it shouldn't be a problem because I want to focus on stats for newer years.

Focus?

Today feels like a Saturday.

For some reason, I feel like I can focus(?) today. Maybe I'll read some [physical] books...? Or read those stuff that I procrastinated reading...

Made some progress watching a few anime in my Watch Later playlist. For now, it's under 25 videos... I really need to go watch them. Also, I feel mean. I liked watching Rudeus depressed in the few earlier episodes of Season 2. I don't know why. Probably my S side at work.
